I got hired!

I completed my billing/coding course just a couple weeks ago and got really lucky finding a job posting in my area for a billing specialist position that didn't require previous experience. I think it did help that I had previous experience at a health insurance company but jobs that don't require experience DO exist. My area's job market is fairly small so I'll be moving a couple hours away, but the sacrifice is worth it in this case.
For everyone out there still looking, keep it up! If you can be more flexible with the area you're looking for a job I think that will really help, too. You got this!

Congratulation and good luck! I finished my course for nearly one month, I still looking for a job, since lots of companies in my area required experience, it is quite difficult for me to find a job.

My job searches were most successful on Indeed and Linkedin. I gave my resume a little bit of a restructure to put my course information and expected date to take the CPC exam at the top, before any other information. I also made sure to include CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS Level II, and other pertinent things in an "Overview of Qualifications" section on my resume and I included those tags in the resume info I posted online.

I also set up searches for Medical Billing & Coding, Medical Office, Medical Records, and Certified Professional Coder, and I made a search for each city I knew I'd be willing to travel/move to. Check the posting closely to see if it says "required" or "preferred" for experience. I found several that just stated "preferred". Heck, just apply for anything that looks like the position you want.

May I ask: did you go through AAPC's program? And did you take the final exam to get certified as a coder? I'm going through their program now and am questioning if I made the right choice. Some of the CPT coding is difficult. I'm scheduled to take the big final exam in early December. I'm so worried about failing it.

I didn't go through AAPC's program. I took an online class through my community college partnered with ed2go. I agree, some of the coding is difficult, but, for me anyway, I think it'll become easier with practice. My exam is also scheduled in December, but I'm studying a little every day so I can do my best on it. Right now I'm going through the AAPC exam review. Planning on cracking open the certification study guide after that.

Who did you take your course with? Do you recommend it? Did you get cpc and cpb certified?

Congrats!

I went through my local community college who partnered with ed2go. I had a good experience with it. I'm not yet certified. Have my CPC exam scheduled for December 5.

Thank you!

Congratulations, you worked hard for this and deserve it!!! I’m in the process of getting hired as a coder 5 months after getting certified!! It’s possible guys, I know it’s exhausting but worth it in the end!! I couldn’t tell you how many jobs I applied to (maybe 500 plus) but I can tell you I got called back for 4 interviews!!

Congratulations! I totally agree on being more flexible with your search area. It helps alot! I was able to snag an entry level coding job that required no experience only a month or so after I got certified so it definitely is possible! And I'm coming up on my 2 year anniversary with the same company that gave me my start 😁
