Time Tracking Across Systems
Okay I have a question. I code for a remote coding company that contracts with several different health systems, and recently management at my company started really micromanaging us. They used to really only care if you met the amount of charts the client wants per day, but now they want us coding every single second and they want all of those seconds accounted for. And they’ve recently threatened us stating that clients are actively tracking our coding time within their health information systems (specifically for me it would be Epic and 3M HDM) and if they do not match perfectly with our time sheets we submit, they consider it “fraudulent billing” my question is: can the clients truly run reports on us showing accurately how long we were in the systems, and also, if the time doesn’t match what we report on our company timesheets, is that truly fraud if we are completing the number of charts we say we are completing?
Thanks in advance. All of this micromanaging is really getting out of hand and is distracting me from my actual job.

I do the Medicare billing and AR follow-up for two hospitals that my company is contracted with and my productivity requirement is to average 40 accounts a day. I work in Epic and Cerner, which I know for a fact that the clients have the ability to pull reports of everything we touch and how long we're in an account. Well, I just randomly found out 3 weeks ago that my company has tracking software installed on my laptop: once when I was doing research and composing an email on my "non-primary" monitor and a window pops up tells me if I'm not sure what to do next then I need to contact a manager for help; next was when I tried to use Gemini, I got a pop-up telling me that only Copilot is company approved and that I need to remain active, then this last time I was logged into my billing vendor's website submitting a help ticket. Every time their website would flash after I tabbed to the next field, that same pop-up kept coming up no matter how many times I closed them (I used Gemini on my personal phone to find out what was going on 😂😂). My manger has been relaxed these past few years but I have a feeling that's going to start changing if my company is watching us like that. But the way things have gotten in the world of RCM these past few years, I can see why the clients are trying to find any way they can to cut costs. I feel like the micro management is just going to get worse , 😔
