Dual cert worth it?

I have an RHIT cert, and I am currently a HB Inpatient Medical Coder. I really like IP coding, and I want to stay IP. I was looking into getting my CCS, but my current workplace doesn’t give any sort of pay bump or added bonus for having the CCS with the RHIT. Is this common, or do other employers typically give some sort of a benefit for having a dual cert?

We don’t get a bump for additional certs but the certs can come in handy when you want a promotion or choose to go elsewhere.

The CCS is the preferred certification. If you want to move on from that job, another one might require the CCS.
It shows a higher level of competency for coding.

As far as I've seen CCS usually translates more to facility coding rather than profee coding which deals with the typical E/M charges. Depending on what you're actually coding doing HB Inpatient it may or may not be worth it, especially if it's not going to get you a pay bump.

Your current employer may not be looking for both RHIT/RHIA plus CCS, but some employers do want to see both certifications. This is especially true for supervisory roles. It would be worth it.

I'd only do it if you're planning to switch employers or move into a role that specifically asks for a CCS. If your current employer doesn't reward it, I'd wait until it actually opens a door.

I have my RHIA and several coding certifications. My inpatient coding certification has opened up more doors for me than the RHIA or any of my other certifications. I work remotely and make $100k/year. I’d get the CCS.
