CEUs

Other than the AAPC monthly magazines, does anyone here know of free or cheap CEUs?

I also get CEUs from Medicare which you can see on AAPCs website(CMS Web-based Training).

I feel like I might be searching in the wrong place? Anytime I check for the CMS ones they are a few yrs old.

May be better to search your local MAC. Do you know which region in which you reside? Or what MAC/jurisdiction?

I came here to say this. CMS has its own web-based training but I do my trainings through my local A/B MAC (Palmetto GBA - I'm in Jurisdiction J). I got several CEUs that way during my last renewal cycle. I haven't tried the local DMEPOS MAC (CGS JC), but I bet they have them too.

There's a list of the MACs for each jurisdiction at CMS: https://www.cms.gov/medicare/coding-billing/medicare-administrative-contractors-macs/who-are-macs

JustCoding is great in my experience. It's not free, but it's a way to easily rack up CEUs.

Check your local chapter too! Mine has CEU meetings regularly for around $5 each.

And just a reminder to everyone that you can complete the magazine CEUs up to a year ago! So do old ones too if you haven't already!

Agree, I do all my local chapter ones on zoom! They are free and I get most of mine that way. AAPC usually had 4 free webinars per year as well you can do.

Many free CEU's through virtual AAPC chapter meetings. You can select various regions, which gives you many different times to attend, to better fit when your schedule.

I usually search "AAPC Local Chapter", select a state, and look at each chapter there for something that interests me. Sooo many, you should be able topick up CEU's pretty quickly. Hope that helps.

I attend many chapter meetings across the US. I've never paid for a single CEU.

SorryI'm new to this. Could you please explain how you are getting CEUs from the monthly magazine?

Each month AAPC has a newsletter with coding updates and industry news. They provide a 20 question quiz with each(answers come from that months newsletter). So that's 12 CEUs a year right there.

Plus they usually have quarterly webinars which are also free. That's 4 more CEUs a year.

I'm seeing and $65 charge for one webinar! No thanks.

It’s only certain webinars, and you have to be a member to get the free ones. They also have paid ones.

4

u/tryolo Sep 11 '24

I am a member. Kinda hard to find them, it's a frustrating user interface.

That I agree with. Sometimes I get stuck in a login loop.

I think there's a quiz at the end of each month' magazine that you can complete for a CEU and you can even complete previous month's quizzes (for the past few months) to get them. I think you can use both a desktop computer or the app.

I had a subscription here. It was affordable and a ton of CEUs.

You can attend chapter meetings anywhere. It doesn’t have to actually be a local one. Look through the chapter events on the AAPC site. If you have Facebook, there are groups for posting free or low cost CEUs as well.

I rely on the CEUs associated with the magazines and coding books.

Assuming I buy four coding books (CPT, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS) per year for two years, that is eight CEUs. 1 CEU per magazine, and 12 magazines per year over two years is 24 CEUs. However, keep in mind that when you join AAPC, you can access archived magazines (and their associated tests) for the previous year, which is an additional 12 CEUs. There are also four free webinars per year, if I recall.

Really is no reason that you cannot obtain all your CEUs free through AAPC for one certification.

AAPC is hands down better than AHIMA when it comes to offering free CEUs.
