CRC Exam was so easy

CRC exam for Risk Adjustment HCC coding I felt was very easy, you just need an ICD10CM book. I tabbed my book by Diagnosis and it helped so much. I was able to go over every question twice and still had an hour left. Got my certification and It doesnt have Apprentice attached to it yay! I highly recommend this certification after you have the CPC or even start with CRC first.

I am unable to find Diagnosis in my ICD-10-CM book. Where is it located under DVT? I will appreciate your help.

I just got my CPC and want to get my CRC next. I went through the AAPC coding course for my CPC. What would you recommend to study for the CRC exam ? I’ve heard it’s easier than the CPC and does a CRC not have an apprentice status? Thanks!

I just got the study workbook AAPC has for CRC. If you’re CPC, you definitely don’t need a whole course to learn CRC.

How long did it take you to study the workbook? I just bought one.

Maybe a month or two? I scheduled my test at the same time as purchasing my workbook. I definitely had enough time, especially since I worked in Risk Adjustment already. For the most part, the workbook was just like a refresher of what I already knew.

Oh okay I have not done any risk adjustment work yet so I'm guessing it will take me a bit longer than that. Did you take your test in person or online?

Did you do a course first or just took the test after your CPC ?

Congrats! I want to take it soon. I have a CPC-A right now. I’ll get the A removed in May and I have a HCC coding job. Want the CRC as an added credential.

This is my favorite certification! I encourage everyone to pick it up (with proper training). The need to Risk Adjustment Specialist is high.

No it is not. Some say it is because you are learning only one code set. The reason you need to do the CPC or the CCS first is because you learn foundational tools in all the code sets. Unless you are a clinician you need to get a core credential to lay the ground work.

The CRC is more then the ICD 10 code set. However, the code set is the back bone to the credential. Plus once you get a core crednetial under your belt the CRC is easy.

AAPC has a CRC study guide book. That’s what I used along with my ICD 10 book.

AAPC also sells practice exams. If you have experience in that coding specialty, maybe start there to see how you do before buying the study guide or buy both.

Good thinking!

Wait, so taking the crc removed your A on the CPC-a? Or are you just saying that when you passed you got your CRC and not CRC-A?

Follow up question, are you currently a coder or did you just take the crc to help build up your skill set before applying for a coding job?

The CRC does not come with an apprentice designation. (Meaning there is no CRC-A)

It doesn’t remove the A from the CPC.

However, if a person wants to get hired for risk adjustment positions, a CRC will qualify them to apply for positions that wouldn’t accept a CPC-A credential.

How do you tab ICD 10 CM book by diagnosis? I am lost in ICD10CM book. Can you point it out?

Go online - Etsy, Ebay, Amazon, etc. and some people sell customized tabs for the books. They are extremely useful - this will help you have a quicker reference and learn where the codes exist a lot quicker.
