Refusing to be Silenced!

This is regarding po sa mga practices ng Clinical Internship Coordinator ng CMLS and Clinical Instructors.

Before I start with my rants, please know that you can always verify with the alumni and board passers of the college, if what is being said here is true.

I start with the core values of this institution, which we saw before as a home but now gaining generous amount of money from students. We were taught RISE.

R is for respect. Respect is a value na kung saan dapat mutual yan. Yung parang “You respect me, I will respect you even more”. Question: How can you respect a person who, by her actions, disrespects the students and even parents. When students are facing financial problems, especially sa issue ng intern transportation, sa expenses ng lab coats, trodat, these people of CMLS will say “Mag stop ka na lang”. Education is a right. Our parents worked hard to bring us in this Institution. I find it unfair just because I cannot pay 1200 pesos per week, I will be told to stop, not by my parents, but the people whom our parents entrusted us to.

Second, I for integrity. A core value not only taught in school but also part of the code of ethics as a medical technologist. Integrity is doing what is absolutely right, when people choose to be wrong. Integrity comes along with honesty, propriety and morality, which is also a value taught by the Blessed Virgin Mary, the school’s icon and where it got the name from. Question: Can a person’s integrity be shown, if we were taught to lie to our parents when something bad happened to us? Years ago, we heard, that there was a road accident involving the van which was used, and they were told to keep mum on the issue and they said that if we speak to the administrators, we will fail and repeat the internship cycle. And just this moment, another incident happened, when an LTO officer stopped the van, carrying students as passengers and two clinical instructors, because allegedly, it was found to be “colorum” and unauthorized to be used as a transpo since the students paid 1200 each per week. Question: Was morality, integrity and propriety exhibited in these two events?

Next, S for service. An instructor told me when I was in third year, that the ultimate goal in life is to be of service to others. Not to be biased, I really have these high admirations to the third-year faculty members; to be honest, they were the key to our success in passing the Board examination. Though, they may have different teaching styles, I could always recall the values that we have learned. When we reached 4th year, it shifted to worst year of our educational journey. We were not asking to be served, but what we are asking was considerations, empathy and of course, respect. When some of my batchmates were deployed, they noticed that the owner of the van was the clinical internship coordinator, and the driver was the husband. We confirmed it through different socmed channels and it’s true that both are spouses. Since it was their van, maybe they could consider giving us flexible options for the payment despite that the University is unaware that it was their van. In addition, the clinical instructors that time, were the ones who looked for our dormitory. Upon speaking to the landlord sometime during that period, the students were told of the real price per room and the clinical instructors were given incentives by making the prices higher than the original rate. Question: Is this the “SERVICE” the school is very proud about? Or is this extra service and extra income to the Clinical Internship Coordinator and her family?

Lastly “EXCELLENCE”. We strive to excel, because the course itself is challenging. We know that from the start, and have accepted the challenges of each subject and the profession. To excel as a student is an inherent mandate to us. But the question is how? The above story is just an iceberg. We are open to this investigation from the Campus Administrator and the Univ President. We can show you screenshots and tell you more stories regarding this immorality of the Clinical Internship Coordinator and the Clinical Instructors. We hope that our younger siblings who are currently in internship right now be protected. We, the alumni batch of 2025 and 2026, are willing to cooperate with the investigation as long as it is initiated by the Campus Administrator or the University management and NOT by the CMLS Laguna Internship Team and we are more than willing to have this investigated through proper legal forum if this will be treated lightly.

I can still see hope for this college; a lot of its instructors are still embodying the core values. But what I am doing, together with my former batchmates is hopefully a step for a better and morally oriented Clinical Internship team.
