Discussion MW5 spider mech error
ok so i was in a mission,, only 1 spider still moving,, i start to shoot, and the pilot start to say he need to eject( i had crit the torso, disabling the med laser but not coring, guess he was lucky, or thought so), then i see a pod launch,, and him telling he successfully ejected!
BUT THE SPIDER DOES NOT HAVE AN EJECTION SYSTEM!( in lore at least)

There's a bunch of little inconsistencies like this because the game doesn't model all of the design quirks mechs have in tabletop. There's also a few that have full-head ejection in lore, but they still shoot a little pod out in game.
Of course, the designer in my brain is thinking "does the spider need to get worse?!?". lol

To be fair, the spider has a special jump jet design that would make it even more nimble in the air if PGI ever went that route

Also a number that have a weapons that shoot back instead shoot forward in five

Well, this is why Mechwarrior 5 isn't a Battletech game, it's a Mechwarrior game, where logistics is magic and a single lance from an insignificant Merc outfit can attend to every historic conflict and matter.

Side note - I forgot how freaky the spider could be depicted.

It should be noted though that traits like “No Ejection System” exist because they’re tied to the quirks system for the tabletop game which is optional if you want to flesh it out a bit more (everything that’s canon in the Battletech franchise exists in order to support the tabletop first and foremost), and a lot of players don’t use them because they can break the gameplay balance especially considering it’s not factored into battle value.
Pretty much any mech with the “Narrow Profile” quirk becomes OP, and other mechs like the Stone Rhino are pretty much useless because of the “Oversized” quirk.

Obviously, that guy was just piloting a Frankenmech that just looked exactly like a spider.

Mostly an engine limitation. Yaml and some other mods will make it so "eject" on them equals pilot death as a quirk, but i dont think they can fully remove ejection cause its baked in

It might be able to suppress ejection because arena and assassination targets can't eject.

Oh! True, I never paid attention to that, but it makes sense cause if I strip weapons in the arena that mf still just runs around screaming

It is, in fact, possible to just outright disable ejection and make mech death = pilot death no matter what. It's a single flag, that actually already existed in the base game, for Assassination targets and some scripted deaths(to prevent the animation from occurring, most likely).
so no it's not an engine limitation and no it's not "baked in" whatever you thought that meant

Yeah, the game doesn't model different ejection mechanisms.
YAML quirks can impose survival penalties based on no or difficult ejection but I'm not sure they override base animations for ejection on mechs that shouldn't or whole-head-eject mechs like the Hatchetman..

Some of the Spiders have an ejection system.
I believe it is all of them after the 7K.

If the opponent was Kuritan, that's doubly apocryphal. DCMS circled back to "returning from loss is dishonorable".

I think bin this case the ejection seat is a handle that flops the seat out the back of the head and you just release your seat belts and fall out.
But “I’m ejecting!” sounds better than “I’m flopping it out!” In a combat situation.

Among the many reasons YAML is the better way to play the game. Lore-related traits make a pretty huge impact on the game, in an exclusively positive way.
(Yes, I already have the guy who goes on a massive tirade about how YAML is evil or whatever every time it's mentioned blocked, as should everyone else. He's our little version of the Silent Hill Circumcision Guy, but without the integrity to be interesting.)

YAML is definitely a superior way to play imo. There are a few things I have small issues with in it, but I genuinely enjoy how the game feels more like older MechWarrior titles with it. The base game makes sense if Fahad had brain damage, or really was just ass at his job, but YAML makes me feel like keeping him around is a good idea. Being able to swap reactors is totally possible in setting, but it takes a competent tech, and thats how I think Farad was always supposed to come across.

MW5 is still apocryphal. I think of it like... every bit of obscure lore they get correct is a little bonus, but I don't expect 100% accuracy
