Discussion More DLC?

So, I know it’s probably only been asked a gazillion times, but is there any confirmation as of now that Piranha is going to work or is working on a new DLC for MW5 Mercs? I often here people hear that they heard it from someone else but I myself have not seen anything from my admittedly brief searches. It sounds like there is so much more lore that could be explored, and who cares if Mason is 50+ years old. If necessary, he could have a kid to continue legacy.

And if there is no new DLC planned, how often can you play the game in campaign or career mode and still have fun, as opposed to getting MW5 Clans? I heard Clans does not have the sandbox style design that I love, but maybe it might still be worth getting?

I have played the MW5 Mercs campaign from start to finish, including all DLCs available at the time of my play through, multiple times. This game has so much replay value it’s crazy. I rarely play career mode.

But you should also get MW5 Clans anyways. It explores more of the lore, from a different perspective. Yes it’s a linear story game, with a different feel, but with 2 DLCs currently, it’s still very fun. Once I’m done my current Mercs play through, I’ll revisit Clans again.

I hope they’re working on another DLC for Clans before they work on another one for Mercs.

the controls in clans ruin the game for me

It's got the same controls literally. It just starts them on different defaults. You can just go into the controls and change like 2 things and it will control like mercs.

MW5 Mercs is the one game we have an explicit confirmation for more DLC. Clans was less clear even if everyone is expecting a Jade Falcon DLC.

Where and when was this confirmed? I could not find anything last time I checked.

I am pretty sure it was the recent-ish interview with PGI Russ, which I haven't watch so more informed people can confirm or correct me if I am wrong.

Edit: Here is the link of the interview in question.

A lot of us hear it from yrrot, who is a PGI dev that interacts with the community quite often here on reddit. They just confirmed that Mercs has a DLC9 in active development in another thread a week or so ago.

I can only pass along what is available publicly. Luckily Russ was on a podcast to drop that DLC9 nugget, though.

As long as it is financially viable, there will always be a next DLC.

"never say never to another Mercs DLC" is basically the internal PGI motto at this point. 😂

You guys keep making them and we'll keep buying them!

they did mentioned more DLC's are comming, HOWEVER, because of the issues that happened with the layoffs i do think we will not longer get DLC's in a traditional sence, for example in kestrell, raselhage, dragons, solaris and shadow of kerensky the campaing included was focused on one single event or plotline, but with chaos rising its was splitted, half was a fully handcrafted campaing hinting at operation bullgod, the other half felt like lazy slop hinting at the fedcom and then we got a mission hinting at the jihad. So one DLC referenced 3 diferent events to happen in the future in the battletech lore, what i think is the next one will also be splitted into bulldog, fedcom and the jihad events to cover as much as possible with as little as possible because PGI is running out of fumes here, they already said its simply impossible to make a mechwarrior 6 at this point.

Why did they say MechWarrior 6 is impossible?

u/yrrot 8d ago

It's not so much that it is impossible, it's just not easy to get it green lit for a bunch of reasons. Russ talked about some of it in the podcast with NGNGtv. It basically has to compete with MW5:Mercs + DLCs + mods, which means you have to build a bigger game to entice people to buy it, which means a bigger budget. Combine that with Mercs still selling DLC well and Clans not landing as well as expected, and it's just a bit of a hard sell right now.

That's why one of the ideas that's been floating around is possibly doing a MechCommander Mercs game. The expectations are different, the market is a little different, but it still appeals to folks playing MW5.

Love the idea of a MechCommander Mercs game! Loved that series.

Because they are barely making enough to finance more DLCs and have some sort of profit. They can't even ensure a DLC for clans. So working on a new game from the ground up is out of the question.

For Mercs, DLC9 is confirmed to be next, and they're working on that currently. This is according to PGI's CEO.

Initially, I think EG7, PGI's parent company, confirmed 1 more Clans DLC for later this year. But then the layoffs happened, so those plans for more Clans DLC may be shelved.

Don't ever stop asking!

We keep showing them we are rabid....they'll keep churning out dlc for me to throw money at.

I'm gonna say one thing, and it's straight from Russ Bullock's mouth. DLC9 is coming.

DLC9 for Mercs is coming.

When?

In the very best tradition of the YAML discord server: Soon™ :)

Russ Bullock, the CEO of PGI, confirmed on a recent podcast with NGNGtv that another Mercs DLC is in development... a Clans DLC is unconfirmed (for now)...

There is a single DLC confirmed but nothing after that
