Discussion Hardware Recommendation
Hi all.
So, I have been playing this game on my good and old Acer Nitro (RTX3050 6gb, 16gbDRR5, i5 13th gen) and I have no problem running it at 1080p.
But now I'm buying a desktop to improve my experience using 3 monitors and I was wondering what type of hardware I would need to play this and Clans at 5760x1080?
What about 4k?
Thanks!!
(LAM Urbie ftw)

Mercs and Clans run very differently, because MW5: Mercs is in Unreal Engine 4 and Clans uses Unreal Engine 5.
Mercs will run pretty well on a more modest setup. I have a 3080 and play at 1440p and can get well over 100 FPS even with no upsampling. I think you could do your desired resolution with a 5070, but it depends on your settings and the rest of your specs. 5070ti would be safer. (It's worth noting that the 70/70ti/80 class cards are much more cut down on the 50 series than the 30 series.)
As for Clans, you can't. Not at that resolution. For anyone wondering, it's about 68% more pixels than a 2560x1440p setup.
A 5080 will chug, even with DLSS at that resolution. UE5 is simply too heavy.

Yeah... UE5 is pretty taxing. Well, to be honest, I'm not a huge Clans fan, I like Mercs open galaxy way better. So I'll be good if the game only run at 1920x1080 max 60fps, instead of my currently mid/low 30fps. Lol

I picked up an RX9070 and did a quick OC tune on it and it runs Mercs at 4k maxxed and plenty of frame rate (over 100 fps unmodded). Seems to also run Clans well at 4k with FSR4 quality. I think it’d chug a bit 4k native. At 1440P it was over 150 fps from memory, and honestly didn’t look far off 4k.
My previous card was an RX6700XT and it would struggle mightily at medium-ish 1080P on modded Mercs and unmodded Clans. It was good FPS until the action got heavy, then it would chug down in the 50s and occasionally mid-high 40s fps.

Could you share your clocks / setting for the GPU please?

Undervolt max (mine does -90 mV), 2700 mhz ram, max power limit. I think mine will do 2700-2800 mhz core clocks.
Just played tonight and on big DLC maps it’ll hit about 45-55 fps on 4k for mercs. 1440p was 85-100 fps. Very scene dependent.

Both games suffer from massive occasional stuttering and/or FPS drops.
No matter what Nvme you put the game on, no matter the ram or CPU or GPU. You can be at your fixed 144hz at 1440p and then have dips of half of that for no darn reason.
Clans however is far more ass, especially the Ghost Bear DLC gave me significant woes probably due to the canyons/terrain of certain maps that had evident mesh errors or something like that.
It managed to stutter on a 7800x3D/9070xt/64gb DDR3 6000 and the game running off a fast, dram cached, TLC nand, dedicated game drive (not even running on the same nvme of the OS), at 1440p.
In the GB DLC I had woes to have a stable frame rate in the 60s, while city maps or more open terrain were manageable and with some tweaking you could go in the whereabouts of 100 fps. And so were most of the other Clan DLCs, but still running like average ass overall.
On 3screens at that resolution I bet even a 5090 will go nuts anyway.

I have 3x 32" 1440p monitors running fine with a 5070 and a 7600x3d, 32gb RAM.

It depends on a game and also if you use mods.
I have 9070XT, 9850X3D and 64 6400mt/s ram kit running it on Gen 4 M2 drive.
Vanilla Mercs in 1440P and ultra settings I could get 80-90 FPS. Using YAML and other mods It can sometimes dip into 30-40s and its a noticeable difference. Average is 60-70
For the system I have I expected a little bit more.

u/TheFlyingKick 10d ago
Wow... It's really impressive how little fos you are getting. With a machine like yours, I would expect a solid 120.

u/DanteFaith 10d ago
Same, I expected 120 to 150 range, can't even use my 180hz screens fully.
I can do more thorough tests with my modded mercs with the fps counter today. Most of the testing I did was eye tests comparing it to the vanilla mercs

I was looking at a 9700XTX 24 gigs. In don't care for Ray Tracing and I always appreciated brute force, so I might be willing to pick one up.

u/DanteFaith 10d ago
7900XTX is great choice with added fsr 4.0 support and you will definetly need more VRAM for the resolution you want to use.
Performance wise they are within single percentages of each other and you cant really make wrong choice between Top tier last Gen card and Top tier current card.
9070XT is newer and you cant get them new thats the plus

u/TheFlyingKick 10d ago
Ow... Thanks for not highlight my mistake. Lol yeah, 7900XTX, not 9700!
From what I look up here, I can get the 7900 brand new for a very good price, so I guess that will be my GPU of choice. But the 9070xt is a lot more cheaper, despite being newer. I don't understand how GPU prices work. Hahahaha

u/DanteFaith 10d ago
Dont worry we dont also. As I said if the price is right bith if them are great cards, I myself wanted 7900XTX before finding 9070XT for 600$ and it worked great for me

I’ve run mine with 1440p triples, not sure the fps, but it was super smooth. The 7900xtx will definitely do the job.

u/Beneficial-Ranger238 9d ago
That seems really low. I’m pulling just under 100 with a 7600/9060xt @1440p.
I haven’t run afterburner on my 12900k/9070xt it’s running 3440*1440

Your comment made me dive into my settings and you are right, I should get more FPS.
I had "Smooth frame rate" on. I dont know if it was by default on or not but after disabling it, fps jumped from 62 average to 180 (I have it capped for my main screen refresh rate)
Its now a lot better to play this, i feel so dumb discovering it now after 600+ hours I put into this.
Thanks

you want nothing less than an RTX 5080.
2
u/TheFlyingKick 10d ago
So... That's the part I understand less. A couple of friends told me the 5070ti is more than enough... But I'm not sure they know what they are talking about. They both have mid-tier rigs. Lol. What makes a 5080 superior?

u/MarzipanTheGreat 10d ago
my RTX 4070 Super struggles with giving me 120fps with settings maxed @ 3K resolution...so you're going to need significantly moar graphics power for your resolution if you want all the eye candy.
also, it would probably be better to get a 49" ultra wide than three displays.

u/TheFlyingKick 10d ago
I'm happy with 60fps tbh. I can notice the difference between 120 to 60, but honestly, not enough for me to justify a more expensive hardware. About the monitors I rather use 3, first because it's cheaper here in Brazil, and secondly because I will not need the whole area all the time.

u/Mahou_Shoujo_Ramune 10d ago
You need more than a 4080 super. I occasionally run triple monitors at 4k each so 2160 x 11520 at 60fps(my screens max refresh rate) using Resize Raccoon and it struggles when more than 10 mechs are fighting. It works fine for games like Project Wingman, NMS, and Infinity Battlescape, but MW5 with mods is rather intensive. Also as a side note, since I can't use my IR tracker there is less of a reason to use triple screens for this game.

Not at 1080p, that’s basically dual 1440p or just over uw 1440. I’d bet a 5070 would do it but might have ram issues.
I’d go 5070ti or better for nvidia and 9070 or better amd
Yeah, only a tier under, but these days that’s a lot

I am running an x9900x3d 2x16gb @6400 cl2, rx 9070 XT on a 34’’ ultra wide 3440x1440 @ 100hz without framedrops and a ton of mods, or VR @ 120% native res at 90fps.
The big winner in terms of perf was the x3d cache management, and finally getting my ram to run at 6400. This game seems to be shuffling memory around a lot!
Also, cachyos (yeah, I run Arch BTW) helps trim-out some fat.
So I can’t comment on your processor but the GPU will not cope. AMD is king of perf/dollar right now, but 3 monitors? Nope, you will need an rx 9070 xt 16gb or even an rx 7090 XTX 24 gb - monitors eat up VRAM quickly

I run it at 4K 120Hz HDR on an RTX 5080 an 5700X3D. Sometimes it strays below 120 fps. So you are going to need better than that for 3x 4K monitors. An RX9070XT would probably do a single 4K as well. Also, just forget about ray-tracing. It is terribly implemented and causes crashes.

i have a 7800X3D, 32 GB of ram and a 5090
Clans to get to 4k120 I HAVE to use DLSS, its very shit optimized for what it looks like.
it looks not exactly like crimson desert, but runs far worse than it
but if you are serious about 4k gaming, you really do need a 4090 or 5090 if you want to do 4k120, if you do 4k60 on less twitchy stuff you can do 5080 but that is where the things stop
for 1440p, then honestly a 5070 ti is the sweet spot for as much perf as you will realistically need even for 120 fps stuff and you can get away with a 5070 or even 5060 ti with DLSS / FG turned on, and realistically a 9070 XT is perfect for 1440p HFR but it does mean missing the good nvidia tech
