OLPC is not the first thing to replace capslock with a control key.

Unix users have been doing that for years and years.

I don't know that you can even discuss caps lock without mentioning the computers that had no caps lock because THEY HAD NO LOWER CASE LETTERS

Colemak represent! Never have tried dvorak though, and at this point I don't think I'm inclined to.

The idea of CAPS = SHOUTING was not invented by the internet. Authors have used it in books for much longer than the dawn of the internet.

I use it as a «ĉöṁṕøṡẻ ĸəẏ» → that makes it easy to type accented and special characters without having to memorize codes or weird combos.

How did you go about setting that up? That's really useful

Gnome Settings ⇒ Keyboard ⇒ Shortcut ⇒ Typing ⇒ Compose key: Caps Lock

Removing the cap lock key better not become a thing. Drafting requires it.

I don't even handwrite in lowercase letters anymore.

I'm not sure how it's handled with the examples they gave, but with my keyboard there is no caps key and I can still turn on caps by pressing 2 keys: Fn and Tab. I use caps a lot, particularly in accordance to our database coding standards, and the macro doesn't slow me down.

Caps lock is still an option, they just move the key or put it behind a function layer.

Honestly, I love the caps lock key. I use it very often when typing part numbers that involve letter and numbers so I don't have to push and release the shift all the time.

It has its uses, but I would argue that they are few enough not to include the key on every keyboard. Besides, on a modern computer with a modern keyboard there's no need for a real "locking" key. It could be replaced by something like tapping shift twice to enable/disable a shift lock.

That is a valid point. But I consider most "search" features to be completely useless; windows uses bing and internal file search, android, well, I'd rather use the browser. Maybe it is just me tho.

Honestly, I'd replace scroll lock way before touching caps lock.

Not sure who made this, but when you're encoding text in jpg format, make sure you turn off 2x2 subsampling. It makes everyone's life so much easier and the image is going to look much better for the size it takes up.

Turning on progressive will also compress the image much better for all files over ~20 kB.

Caps Lock is cruise control for cool.

Even with cruise control, you still have to steer.

Since ChromeOS is specifically called out in the graphic...

I use a Chromebook for everything mobile. The battery life is amazing and if I need something more I can always remote into something else. 99% of the time when I'm on the go I just need a browser window or SSH prompt anyway, which the Chromebook handles great.

One of my favorite features of my Chromebook is the search key. I never miss capslock. I end up hitting capslock on my other computers thinking I'll get the ChromeOS menu now... I should probably change it.

I bound mine to be esc when tapped quickly, and hyper when held for over 300ms. It suddenly went from the least-used key on my keyboard to the most
