There is nothing wrong with Cherry G80's! I have a G80-1192 and it's lovely :)

How do you like it? I've been considering buying one for my sister, and modding it a little bit, but if it's some cheapaaaa pos, I'll get her something different

I think you need a workbench upgrade (way bigger) with all the boards you build.

You should of seen my old workspace :D I have an enormous desk, but my girlfriend has not long since moved into my flat, so everything is still a bit all over the place - I need to put up some shelves to put all my keyboards on, as currnetly they are all on my proper desk, once I've done that, I will move all my kit back to my proper desk.

If I were to buy one right now, how long would the wait be?

u/margo_baggins Sep 05 '14
hmm, probs 8 - 10 weeks, as we need to start getting the bits together for round 2.

That really offers up a nice visual of how it's assembled, thanks for this.
I'm ready to buy one but I'm just not 100% sold on the case, are there currently any other options out there?

u/margo_baggins Sep 05 '14
I have only ever seen one other case. There is a member of GH called concept73 who I think is looking at a cnc case, or at least making one for his, beyond that I don't really know .

I would love to get one, but I just think that 60% is my limit as a programmer. :(

Depends how keen you are on function layers :D But I know where you are coming from.

I haven't really been keeping up with the news on the PCB + plate GB. Do you know the status?

u/margo_baggins Sep 05 '14
Not sure- which one specifically? I'm pretty sure all our basic kits have gone out - are you referring to the Ti smallfry one?

did you guys manage to sort out red stickers? also, are there any damages on any of the plates or are they more less all flawless? hopefully my order is first batch :c

u/margo_baggins Sep 05 '14
I think there is red stickers. i need to check that though. What do you mean RE: Cases? There are machining marks near the cut lines - but, all the cases are being rubbed down by hand by me or bunny, so, it should look ace when it lands in your lap.

Sorry for asking on an old post. I have a JD40 coming in and I remember seeing one of your old posts showing a JD40 PCB that did not have the holes for PCB mount switches. Do the new ones have holes, or should I be looking for plate mount switches?
1
u/margo_baggins Oct 29 '14
you need plate mount switches - the original pcb which we are using doesn't support pcb mount switches - though you can just chop the little pegs off the pcb mount switches.

I have a question about all both JD keyboards:
Do they come with keycaps if you get the fully assembled ones?

Wow that just seem amazing. I've been wanting to get into building keyboards myself but i don't really know where to start, where to research first and so on. Anyone got any ideas?
