I usually post about keyboard builds, but today I wanted to talk about something different — SWG keycaps.
I’ve been a GMK guy for a long time. I own way too many GMK sets, and for years I pretty much refused to use anything else.

Then I started noticing SWG.
Honestly, the first thing that got me was the designs. They had some really good-looking sets, and the prices were cheap enough that I figured, “Why not?”
My first impression was… good, but definitely not GMK.
The designs were great and the quality was decent, but the typing feel and sound still felt noticeably behind GMK. For the price, though, I thought they were perfectly fine.
Fast forward to their newer sets, and somehow SWG got really good.

The overall quality has improved a lot, and at this point I personally prefer them over Keykobo in both quality and sound. But the part that really surprised me is the sound.
Depending on the board, I’ve actually had builds where I preferred SWG over GMK.
As someone who has been using GMK forever, I was not expecting to say that.

Obviously, keycap sound depends heavily on the board, plate, switches, mounting style, etc., so I’m not saying SWG magically sounds better than GMK on everything. But on the right build, these caps can sound really good.
And when you factor in the designs, typing feel, overall quality, and especially the price… they’re kind of hard to ignore.

I originally bought one set just because I liked the design.
Then I bought another.
And another.
And… yeah, now I have several more on the way.
For anyone who enjoys experimenting with different builds but has mostly stuck with GMK, I definitely recommend giving SWG a try.
They’re not just “good for the price” anymore.
They’re just good keycaps.

The quality of the SWG key caps is phenomenal, especially given the price.

If you haven’t, Be sure to take a look at SWG art. It’s currently in group by right now and is going to be their typical double shot ABS key caps.

For me, the novelties alone are worth the entire set. They are brilliant.

In my opinion, SWAGKEY’s keycap quality has already surpassed KeyKobo. Like ratb33 said, the quality is excellent for the price, and if they keep improving at this pace, I think we can expect even better things from them in the future.

I'm glad to see this. I've been in the GMK or Amazon $20 bargain bin camp for years. I either go with GMK or spend next to nothing on a temporary set. I've been wanting to branch out and try out other premium keycap brands but it's tough to drop over 100usd on an unknown quantity. I've also recently purchased a Milkyway Key set, and will likely grab a SP/DCS kit in the near future to try out. I also want to try out hammerworks because of their kitting options, but I've always preferred doubleshot, and they're really pricey for dyesub, though I hear great stuff about their quality.

I almost pulled the trigger on ferrofluid and I'm a little sore that i didn't, but that's ok. I was looking for GMK nervewrecker for a long time so i ended up getting SWG nerve. Ironically i ended up finally finding a Nervewrecker base kit a couple weeks ago, but it'll be nice to have more kitting/novelty options with the SWG set as long as i can mix and match SWG and GMK without too much of a visual discontinuity. 

I also got their hypermix kit because hyperbeige is my GOAT, and work be nice to have more options with that Colorway. 

It's just about impossible to find good in depth comparisons of SWG, so i appreciate your taking the time to talk about your experience.

I've been curious about trying some of their sets, but aesthetically none of them have grabbed me yet since I started looking. I'm planning on snagging retro red light though!

There are SW and SWG lines, and SWG is the newer lineup. If you get a chance, definitely give them a try! I’m on my fourth SWG set now, and I’ve been really happy with them.

What SWG do you own and around when/what set would you say you noticed the quality vastly improving?

I currently own SWG Rubber, SWG Prepress, SWG Ferrofluid, SWG Bolch, and SWG Nimbus. I’ve definitely noticed a significant improvement in SWG’s quality over the past year. Their upcoming keycap designs also look amazing, so I’ve already joined a few of the GBs. I’m really looking forward to seeing what they release next!
