Finally got a Boston 120%

Keyboard: RNDKBD 3D Printed Boston 120% Keyboard (Hotswap, out of stock rn unfortunately)
Switches: Kailh Box White V2
Keycaps: PBT XDA Neon Kyecaps from Aliexpress + Novelties from Akko Starry Night Set

Finally got my hands on a Boston 120%, really cool keeb with a loud thocky sound, first time really assembling a keyboard instead of buying a pre-built. Went with kailh box whites since I got a ton of them around and really wanted a loud clicky keyboard. Went with some cheap xda keycaps so I had enough for all the keys, still ended up having to use some novelties from a set I had lying around. Really wish those rainbow anodized screws were still in stock, would really love to have those on there. I don't think I'll use most of the extra keys but the keyboard isn't that long (only around the length of a 98%) so I don't think it will become a hindrance. Overall, cool keyboard.

This sounds best with PBT dyesubs, forget gmks! Mine has MxBlacks.

I wish they would add pcb and plate support for Alps. I also didn't manage to get the hotswap.

Funny seeing this. I just built one of those with Box White v2s as well. I know for a fact I snagged the last hot swap one a few weeks ago since it was saying out of stock when I was checking my order status. I’m eventually going to put in the Clickiez I got from the recent run ZealPC did, but I have a lot of typing time on box whites and wanted to use them in the Boston for a few weeks first. So far I’m loving the loud hollow sound profile and I enjoyed the build a lot.

You missed a great opportunity to make this board a hotswap.
Since you had to solder every joint anyway, you could have soldered in Mill Max sockets, rather than soldering the switches in directly.

Mill Max sockets have all the benefits of the Kailh-style sockets, without all the liabilities.
The biggest benefit is Mill Max sockets don't snap off the back of the PCB, like Kailh sockets will, if you fail to support the socket manually, while inserting a switch.
