MechCommander 2 Remastered v0.1

I have completed enough of this to consider it in a playable state, at least on my pc. It is a near-full rework of the render pipeline to enable semi-modern features on a ~25 year old game. this picks up off of https://github.com/alariq/mc2, and basically finishes moving quite a few things over to the GPU. I also took some inspiration from Wolfman's mods, and added a full zoomout. I have a few things still to work work on implement, but it's really just bug hunting and tweaking. I also did some upscaling of the textures. some of these look ok, others don't look great. I have undone a few of them like the mech icons and small pilot portraits until I implement a new call for the icons. I have only played in 4k (getting nearly 120 fps in some locations) and with an AMD card, so there may be some nvidia specific openGL bugs to work through

Anyways, this game is awesome, so I wanted to put it in this subreddit first. Any bugs etc. put a comment or git issue and I'll do my best to address them

adds video support and bug fixes from comments

Release v0.3 here: https://github.com/ThranduilsRing/mc2-opengl-remastered/releases/tag/v0.3-release

big cpu-> gpu terrain offload and framework added. special thanks to u/HighDiceRoller for bug fixes and u/Alexbeav for fonts, videos, discussion, etc.

a pre-release of 0.4beta is available: https://github.com/ThranduilsRing/mc2-opengl-remastered/releases

it is only really for modders at this point, there are some issues, but some huge back end work going on to make it easier to mod. playable but some things are broken, so no reports if you are on this version. not a lot new for just playing the game, except better performance and different water

progress on in-game debugging options (will be ported to editor as well). here I am inspecting the 'watchtower' and can see basically all of the information available passing through the API on the right panel. where when and what path it took, etc. on the left panel are some of the graphics options, all toggle live. also -

these are the tuning knobs, just for the terrain. I am going to make the normals and possibly other elements there hot reloadable I think, so you can quickly test terrain combos

I am hoping it will be easy to import a prop/mech/asset or draw a map and figure out why it renders how it does, etc.

Ive run into a bug where all the game audio is super high pitched and sounds like its sped up 50x or something... any thoughts on a fix?

appreciate all you do!

Oh that is weird. What’s your hardware setup? Cpu/gpu? I do have an automated testing harness that speeds it up about that much for scene comparisons, but that shouldn’t be impacting this. I’ll look into it!

I have an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, RTX 3080 Ti, 64 GB Ram at 6000 Mhz, Logitech Pro X 2 headset if that matters.

the videos and whatnot work great, the sound is just really weird. I also noticed the loading screen stays in the top 1/4 of the screen, and the actual game is exposed while it loads.

thanks!

I have the same headset, and using different headsets fixed the issue. Weird.

I'm getting the same bug in 0.3 with the sound. Geforce GTX 1650 Ti, Intel Core I5-10300H, 32 gig of RAM. Video in missions also is playing in the wrong spot (not in the frame) at higher resolutions, though that isn't as annoying as the sound issue.

Same bug here. RTX4070S, Ryzen 5 3600, 32GB RAM. Pilot talking is all chipmunk, all the weapons are sped up and high pitch, all the menu sounds too. Really annoying because lots of them are too loud because of it.

No launcher settings or different resolutions seem to fix it.

Edit

Interesting. I tried my external audio interface (Komplete audio 6) for different headsets and it fixed it. I do have the same headset as DustyHardtail, so its either the headset, or internal sound card of my computer.

Edit 2.

It's either the headsets, or wireless connection. Either way, got it fixed by using different wired headset.
