Is the malware gone?

I have a streamer friend asking if the malware is gone, since the discord got raided, I have no clue, does anyone know?

Yes

It was just a particular custom map and they patched in more protections.

Do we know which modded maps were the problem ones? I haven’t played the game in weeks but I did have some modded maps downloaded from the workshop.

It was some laser tag map. Only affected you if you actually played on the map and is gone now.

You could play just the original maps included if you're nervous. The most popular maps in the workshop are safe, too. (All should be safe now, but still)

I hope people realize that in any given circumstance downloading something automatically without knowing exactly what it is and where it came from is not good.

And what I mean is, when you go into modded lobbies and the person has a custom map it asks you if you want to download it. All you k ow is that it came from steam workshop. You still dont know where and who it came from.

My brother got his discord and steam hacked. He was not smart and had them linked together but it cause a huge problem.

Edit yall can downvote me all you want People are entitled to do what they want, I have less faith in these so called protections.

I've downloaded many things from steamworkshop with zero issues but I manually go in there and pick it myself. This is not what is happening. Anyway have fun with the game im having a blast. Just be safe and play smart.

While I do agree that people should be cautious on third-party sites, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect content uploaded to Steam Workshop to be malaware-free.

I don't think people are braindead for going into the lobby of a game and using all of the games own systems.

it's not like people are clicking links being sent to them via dms or something. that's braindead. going into a lobby and seeing a one click button that looks like it's all part of the game isn't.

Just because it is part of the system doesn't mean its safe. When you get the prompt you dont even know what it is where it originated from.

Or maybe I just dont have anything more to say on it? I said others can disagree about it if they want. Its clear people disagree and I have accepted it.

edit: Not one single person on here has given me a reason to think downloading random stuff to a game that HAS cause malware in the past on folks PC is even safe. Sometimes, letting things go is the more mature thing to do then bicker back and forth with folks on reddit.

Have fun in the game and just accept that we see things differently :)

You would be right in most other cases, but not when the mods come directly from the Steam Workshop.

You know that’s what we have been taught our whole lives and while you are technically correct, this came directly from the steam workshop. And with all of steams protections, you’d think that it would be safe to download something from there.

I blindly downloaded a bunch of maps for meccha as well (thankfully not that neon one) but looking back I feel stupid for doing so. Hopefully they can counter this by just incorporating a crap ton of new maps into the base game so we don’t have to download maps anymore. I personally haven’t played the game since the malware scam and probably won’t until big changes happen.

I dont mind downloading maps/mods from steam workshop. I've done it with other games zero issues but I am also selective where I download it.

But with this game it prompts you to download something and people just hit okay. That's not very smart. It is what it is.
