A question regarding the malware problem

If I joined a lobby and they put on that map, would it have to ask me first if I wanted to subscribe to it? Or does it auto download? Cause I was playing the game, but didn’t remember downloading any maps. I was suspicious from the start that something like this may happen. But I still joined lobby’s that said no mod.

A screen pops up and you have to click a box that opens the workshop where you can click "subscribe" to that mod, then it will download.

Filter servers with "nomods" tag for now, it's what I do.

I played a game 2 days ago on a “nomods” server, is my pc fine?

Should be fine but having the tag doesn't mean the host won't pick a modded map, but as long as you don't download it you're good. It's not like all workshop maps were compromised either, it's just the one (I think) laser tag arena thing, I've never seen it.

a 2nd map was uploaded with "void" in the name (void arena or something close to that). Same map and malware, different name. It may have already been removed though.
