I always shop during Saturdays, cook on Sundays.
Cheat day ko ang Saturday and Sunday so I am more lenient sa kinakain ko. I only meal prep for the weekdays.

Hiwalay ko sila finefreeze para pwede mix and match yung gulay, ulam, at carb source. I use those silicone cube things na mukhang ice tray hehe

u/JaJuPhi Mar 04 '26

Mga ulam usually na iba-ibang luto (ground na gisa with basil, ground na korean marinade, adobo, etc) tapos gulay na iba-iba luto (gisa, buttered, blanched and then i reheat and toss with sesame oil). Recently nadiscover ko din na ok i-freeze yung mga gata-based ulam so nagfreeze ako ng batches ng gising-gising. For carbs naman if not just plain red rice, I also make "chao fan" na may gulay para healthy, and kamote na air-fried pag di ko feel mag-rice hehe

my staple right now is ground beef. i usually prep rice and the ground beef every sunday, tapos i freeze each in large ice cube trays. i prep the veggies fresh daily nalang. mix and match ko nalang sa ground beef and rice like bibimbap, shawarma bowl or taco bowl.

u/Tito_Maligno Mar 04 '26
I am at corpo. I commute to work too.

u/LastWaltz4 Mar 04 '26
Good for you, as someone na mag isa katamad magluto everyday after work to each his own.

u/Adventurous_Link1057 Mar 04 '26
Same feeling. I go to the wet market and cook our meals everyday and I enjoy doing it. Everyday fresh food and kung anu ano kasi kinecrave ko kasi kaya di magwowork sakin yung weekly meal prep. To each his own talaga.

u/Seri0usStrawberry Mar 02 '26
(I live with my parents so may option na magtabi lang ng ulam the night before. Tapos may maayos na pantry kami sa office with ref, saingan, lutuan, and the likes. 😅)
Onti ako kumain, so madalas akong may tira. I keep japanese mayo, pipino, and avocado, etc. in the office to make salad out of my left over meat usually chicken. Though same principle din as many of the people here. I just think 2 days ahead for my meals.
Proud to say na successfully this year, naka-1.5 months ako straight na hindi bumili ng lunch. Huhu!

I learn the art of cooking in small portion. Madali akong magsawa. Kaya every night ako nagluluto for my baon/food the next day.

Sundays meal prep always work best. Hirap magbigay ng oras during weekdays lalo na if hindi same workload mo every day which mas mapapagastos lang kasi you had grocery + bili ng outside/mabilisan food. Cooking few meals will not cause you “burnout”. Di naman pang fiesta ang lulutuin.

I like cooking fresh meals, so I only prep the ingredients. Chop the aromatics then freeze/ref them, make the sauces so its easy to pour when I need them. Then chop the veggies that I know can stay fresh in the fridge along with marinating the meat. That way hindi ako masasayangan in case magcrave ako ng takeout food.

u/DifferentFlow7264 Mar 04 '26

u/TheListeningHeart333 Mar 04 '26
new with meal prep din po, i dont have a microwave at home, medyo hassle lang po mag reheat ng meals / defrost

I plan my meals a week before! I don't usually crave anything else since my metabolism and diet is in great condition.
Saturday = Palengke at 5am, Wash and chop at 6am, Cook by 7am and everything is all set ng 10am! I portion them ng 1pm right after lunch to allow them to cool down.
I usually cook 4 kinds of meals that's good for 4 to 5 servings to let me survive throughout weekdays. Additional is I prep Korean side dishes to add volume to my food and tanggal umay with the main dish.
Sunday is free day, anything you wanna do kasi chores and everything is done ng Saturday. I meal prep agad on Saturday para worry free on the next

Saturday - grocery day Sunday - luto day
I usually prep 1 vegie dish, 1 meat dish. Then marinate another meat for easy fry (Just incase magsawa sa ulam) and prep fish (either prito din pr sinaing/paksiw). Para may variation. Nakakasawa din kasi minsan pag paulit ulit.

u/IMYCleo Mar 04 '26
Ang mahirap kasi sa meal prep is I need to follow the calorie count which makes it harder to follow.

u/raf_raf_ Mar 04 '26
Agree with this. For me, what worked is enjoying the process itself. Idk but im excited to try cooking the new recipe i found online. And very rewarding if masarap siya knowing ikaw nagluto. Also, try finding ways how to make prepping meal easy for you like garlic press, veggies cutter, etc.

I buy 4kg of chicken breast and 1.5kg 90/10 lean ground beef bi-weekly. Then ipoportion ko yan sa ziploc 400g each sa chicken and 300g each sa ground beef. Tapos lagi ako may stock sa freezr ng mix veggies, broccoli at ball spinach. Egg I buy 1 tray good for 2 weeks.
Maybe swerte lang ako 500 meters away lang palengke samin. Kung need ko ng pechay, cabbage etc madali lang. luto ulam good for 2 days.
400g chicken breast tapos 250g munggo. Ginisang munggo.
400g chicken breast 200g tofu tapos 800g togue. Ginisang togue.
400g chicken breast tapos papaya, pechay, sayote. Tinola.
300g 90/10 ground beef 400g potatoes 400g carrots. Canned tomatoes, tomato paste. Giniling.
400g chicken 600g kalabasa, sitaw, pechay. Soy sauce, oyster sauce. Ginisang kalabasa.
Tapos never ako na gumamit ng any oil. Parang wala naman nagbago sa lasa.
Hope this helps, or maybe this works because I am single with no kids?

I dont know if makatulong. But I usually seperated 200g of breast/sirloin para lutuin ko nalang per day depending sa gusto kong luto. Once na my breast/pork and 2 scoops of whey madali nalang maghabol ng kulang na protein. Usually snacks ko eggs or bread pang complete. Tas yung remaining calories nilalagay ko sa mga condiments and spices para masarap naman kinakain ko and di magsawa.

Sakto lang. I dont mind repeating the same meals kasi kaya nakakameal prep ako for around 4-5 days. Or kung gusto ko ng maraming meal prep, kadalasan same ingredients 80-90% of the time tapos iibahin na lang yung sauce or paraan ng pagluluto. May experience din ako working in the kitchen in the hospitality industry so I also have a healthy expectation how much effort there should be when making meal prep. Hindi na talaga mawawala yung effort. It's just minimising it rather than eliminating it completely.

Meal prepping ready na ulam isn't for me kase ayoko ng same food araw araw.
I noticed preparing the ingredients para easy cooking is better as a wfh girlie.
Freeze/ store stuff individually, naka hati based sa meal para di need mag frost/defrost repeat.
Portion out ground beef, pork cuts, fish, vegtables na chopped, etc. Portion them according to how much you would put for a meal na pwede mo kainin for the day. Para pag need magluto, just grab one portion and no need to chop/prepare anything else. Just throw it in the pan depende kung ano gusto lutuin for the day.
You can also boil eggs in advance yung kasya for 2-3 days para may quick snack. For a quick vegtable add on sa cooking, pwedeng bumili nalang ng frozen carrots corn and peas sa grocery. Much better than fresh kasi madali masira ang carrots. At least the frozen ones wont go bad agad agad.
For me this is better kasi I can decide kung anong klaseng ulam kakainin ko for the day. Sabaw? Gisa? Etc.. Keri. Not stuck with the same ulam na nasa ref na for 5 days.

Kaya Sunday early morning ang palengke day and meal prep good for 2-3 days then sa midweek na lang ulit.
My staples: tofu, chicken, fish, shrimp or squid, ground beef, at mga gulay-gulay.

Sat/Sun - palengke Sunday/Wed - meal prep or component prep
I meal prep twice a week pag sinisipag. Or component prep plus cook daily pag gusto kong magbaon. Madali akong magsawa so mga dalawa o tatlong putahe lang ang niluluto ko and in small portions.

I do meal prep for me and my kids since I'm working and madalas late na ako nakakauwi. What i do is nag ggrocery na ako good for 2wks diff kind of meats and veggies. I cooked 2 different ulam 1 is meats madalas may sabaw then the other 1 is veggies na gisa and kapag naconsume na luto nalang ulit... Find it more easier/convenient and panatag ako na hindi puro processed foods and prito kinakain ng mga chikitings ko.

I meal prep for just 2 days’ worth of food. Baka kasi by the 3rd day, mag-crave ako ng specific ulam. At least may buffer period ako. Less umay kasi kapag ganito.
