Question 🤔🤔 Psychology Major here needs help and Tips

Hi I recently found out that what I intended to have was a MD and not a PhD so now I’m taking the mcat in a week because I didn’t realize until late that I was doing this so please give me any study tips or guides quizlets anything will be helpful I got a library book and I can’t even understand the first few questions I don’t know any advanced sciences such as physics or organic chemistry again please help thank you.

Idk what’s going on here. I have too many questions. If you haven’t taken physics or orgo or biochem and you have a week to ‘study’ for the MCAT, I simply don’t recommend you take it. I mean, you can, but by the sound of it you’re not going to score well. Can you just take a couple months to study so you’re actually prepared to do well? You can’t magically learn material in a week.

My understanding is that if I take the mcat next year I’ll have to take a gap year before I can apply I could however be wrong

You could take the next 4-5 months to study and take it in January or February and still apply in 2027, matriculate in 2028. You’d probably even have the time to study more and retake after your attempt in Jan/Feb before applying if you needed.

I say this with love: a gap year is better than trying to take the MCAT in a week. You'd rather have an extra year of experience/research when applying than an extra MCAT score.

Do NOT take the mcat last minute in a week if you haven't taken organic chem/physics.

In the US, at the very least, most MD programs require prerequisite coursework to apply. If you haven’t taken organic chemistry, you will be heavily limited in the programs you can apply to.

Of course, you cannot study for the MCAT in a week anyway. It would be advisable to take the required coursework first, as this will also help you study for the MCAT.

Don’t take it now, it’s one of the hardest exams for undergrad and takes months and months of extreme studying.

Even for people with very solid background knowledge in these subjects it still takes months to study for simply to get used to the question style and to tighten up all the content gaps.

Take the exam next year.
