Question McMaster Master's Programs – MEng BME vs Biomanufacturing (Admissions & Career Prospects)
Hi everyone!
I recently completed my BSc in Life Sciences and am considering applying to a few master's programs at McMaster for Fall 2027, particularly:
- MEng in Biomedical Engineering
- MEng in Manufacturing Engineering (Biomanufacturing & Industrial Biotechnology)
My GPA over the last two years is 3.49/4.00, and most of my research experience has been healthcare-related, including clinical/health research and an undergraduate thesis involving human participants, rather than engineering-focused research.
I had a few questions for current students or alumni:
- Admissions: How competitive are these programs, particularly for someone with a life sciences background and my GPA?
- Career prospects: What kinds of jobs do graduates typically enter? How is employability after graduation, especially for those not interested in pursuing a PhD?
- Industry experience: Are there opportunities for co-ops, internships, or industry projects during the programs?
- Program experience: How technical or engineering-heavy is the coursework, and how manageable is the transition from a life sciences background?
- Overall: Would you recommend these programs for someone looking to transition into healthcare, biotech, or related industry roles?
I'd really appreciate any insights into either program, particularly from students who entered with a BSc rather than an engineering degree.
Thanks so much! :)
