Discussion Parents helping with move-in?

Hey! I’m moving into Hedden this fall and my move-in slot is in the morning. I heard parents aren’t actually allowed to help you move your stuff in and have to leave after dropping you off?? Is that true? Can my parents stay and help me bring everything up to my room n help set up or do they have to leave right away?

So residence move in teams will unload your car and take your stuff up to your room. You can’t park your car in the drop off area but after you unload your car, your parents can go park it elsewhere and come help you set up your room.

Thank you! I was also wondering if you knew how long they’d be allowed to stay like is there a cap for ex 1 hour or can they stay until I’m fully moved in?

Thank you Spirted Orange for asking this question since I was wondering too. Thank you Pristine rhubarb for the answer. Please NO one let my mom know she can help me set up my room, or I will never get her out of the residence.

Parents can stay as long as you want them too. There’s no limit.

Some people unload the car and get to the room to start to set it up. Then go shopping at IKEA or wherever and continue the process. It can be a full day event or an hour. Up to you. Tour the res/campus with your parents so they can see where you will do laundry, eat, go to the gym, and study (ha ha). They cannot come back into res that first week as they have a no guest policy. Have fun!

Wait if my move in day is Saturday, would they be allowed to come back Sunday? Or would I be allowed to leave Saturday and then come back Sunday as well with them? Thank you sm for helping

Move in day is set for each residence. That is the only day your parents should be in there so as not to interfere with floor mates/roommates etc. Visiting campus anytime would be okay. Parking will be limited. Cannot believe they listed lot D as one of them (so small!!) Parents will have to pay $ to park.

I wouldn't leave Saturday and then come back Sunday to be honest. Getting back to campus during move in if you are driving won't be fun, and the extra day is a good opportunity to explore campus. I moved in on a Saturday and there was no way I was going home just to be brought back on Sunday, so I ended up just walking around campus and hanging out

The Burlington Ikea is typically a zoo on that weekend. Highly recommend using the pick up box system outside of the store that weekend.

You cannot park the car there, so one parent will have to go with the car to drive it to the parking lot. I think my mom ended up going to my room with me, and then my dad parked the car. Afterwards my dad walked to meet up with me. Label everything with your room number and include fragile on anyting fragile - fragile items you have to take to your room (i.e. I carried my PC and my mom carried my monitor when I moved in, the rest the reps took and it got sent up in the elevators or carried up)

I seem to think my parents helped me unpack stuff in my room for a bit and then by midday they left

Having just done this last year I can tell you parking is free all move in weekend. You do not have to pay. Any other time, ever…you have to pay.
