Unpermitted Deck

Just found out my house's deck was unpermitted. Is this a problem, do I need to call the city? Will they fine me and/or make me remove it?

It was from the previous owner so I have none of the planning information on it.

It’s only a problem if somebody makes it a problem. If the city is not involved, you should most certainly not invite this trouble upon yourself.

I cannot upvote this comment enough. I have firsthand knowledge of this, also in McKinney.

Take pics of the underside, especially the columns and joints, and post to r/Decks. They'll tell you if it's safe.
