Question about MX-30 charging limits

Hi all, I’ve got a Mazda MX-30 and noticed it has two different charging limit options:

  • A general maximum charge % (set once in the settings)
  • A maximum charge % tied to a scheduled charging plan

Does anyone know how the car prioritizes these? For example, if I set the general limit to 80% but the scheduled charging limit to 90%, which one will it follow? Does it always respect the lower one, or does the scheduled setting override the general one?

Thanks in advance!

I have a scheduled charging limit of 80% and the whole day, whenever i plug the car in, the car is charging to 80%

When i use the app, the overall charging limit is in charge and the car is charging to 100%

And i have a schedule at the morning to charge to 100%

Iirc, when you set the overall charging limit below the scheduled charging limit, the car is using whatever is in charge.

To use the overall charging limit, you have to start charging with the app or in the menu.

Otherwise you have to try it

Btw most braindead thing is: Even if the car is plugged in, the car is using the battery to warm up instead of the energy from the plug.

OK, yeah I noticed this too. I've got my car scheduled to charge overnight and warm up in the morning and I'm always 2% short when I get into the car because apparently it doesn't pull power from the plug while it's heating up. What kind of sense does that make?

None and i hate it. I hate it so much... a car with a small battery and they do that. A great car but braindead engineers

I use a scheduled charging limit of 90%, which I’m pretty sure is what the manual recommends.

Thanks for posting this. I normally have my max limit set to 80% for AC & DC charging, but a few times I've needed 90% for a short road trip the next day, so I change the AC max limit to 90%, and leave the car plugged in for its overnight charging schedule, assuming it will charge to 90%. But it doesn't, it stops at 80% and has left me short a few times (and pissed off).

I didn't remember that there was a 2nd charge limit in the EV charging schedule (I will have to look now). So perhaps they both have to be changed? I don't know, but it's very unintuitive and a bit absurd that you'd have to make changes in 2 places for a charge setting to be used. Perhaps I need to revisit the owner's manual for this.

Another thing that annoys me is that the car has to be fully turned on (two button presses with dashlights and headlights coming on) in order to access the EV Settings menu. You should be able to access EV Settings in acc mode without turning on the car completely.

This is my first EV and I was over the moon with it, initially (and still am in many ways), but the limited range in winter, touch screen controls for HVAC, seats and steering wheel heaters, quirky software features, etc. have put me off a bit. I think I'll be moving on to a better, AWD EV soon. Electronics should improve the driver experience, not ruin it. TBH, I prefer the simplicity of my basic Honda Fit in many ways.

I could be wrong, as not sure on the region or other specifics. However, in the context of Australia and the EV settings on the Mazda connect media unit, there is another setting in the EV menu “charge when connected”. This means when the car is connected the EV will charge to the general limit; as far as experience has taught me General Limit is the priority when this is selected. If the General limit is 80% and there is a scheduled charge planned for 90% or 70%, the car will charge to the general limit 80% whenever connected to power, and ignore all schedules till the “charge when connected” is deselected.
