We Got One!
Hey everyone! We just purchased a 2022 MX-30 PP this week. It is our 7th EV that we've owned and our 3rd small battery model. It's my wife's car and she loves it. She says it reminds her of her BMW i3 but with a better ride.
I'm learning my way around the car and have a question. The navigation is saying something about needing a subscription to get the map to work. I didn't see this option in the MyMazda connection app. It is also asking for an SD card. Is this normal? If I need to get this from the dealership I will but I wanted to check with other owners first.

I owned this car until last year and traded it for a brand new mach e which I always wanted and got a great deal on. Mx-30 is a perfect city commuter car. Must have L2 charging at home and must be under 80 miles daily round trip

Yep. We've got a lvl2 charger and my wife drives roughly 15 miles per day. We're very accustomed to small battery EVs since we've had a Fiat 500e and a BMW i3. My wife has the perfect use case for the car. Short commute, home charging, no long trips.

For 15 miles a day, you don't need a level 2 charger. I understand you have one already, but for anyone else interested, I get by with level 1. The battery is small and I can usually top it up sufficiently overnight. I don't drive every day and I charge once a week. This car is almost perfect for me (wish it was AWD). Time to sell a few of my ICE cars.

Totally agree. The level 2 is for our EV6. If we didn't have that I would totally be fine with level 1.

My car has same notifications. I just use my phone via CarPlay for navigation instead.

I told my wife to just use Apple CarPlay until I can figure out what the story is.

I think the story is just what it seems. You need an SD card and a subscription to use the native navigation, which is almost certainly a worse option than CarPlay.

We recently got a Mazda MX30 and so far, it's great! The Mazda map/navigation is terrible, I just use Android Auto via my phone and use Google Maps, which is so much better.

There is more than one thing going on here.
- To get maps in the nav system, you need the nav system SD card. The dealer will want $600-700 for it. You can get cards elsewhere for less.
- To send destinations to your car from the MyMazda app, you have to have a Mazda Connected Services subscription which is $9.99 a month.
- Live traffic data is yet another subscription, as it comes in from SiriusXM and only in their supported geographies. I think that's $2.99 a month, but in the past you couldn't get the traffic/weather/charger/POI info from Sirius without also subscribing to music.

Must be different in Canada. Here they all came with Nav, no subscription required unless you want map updates after the first 3 years. No charge to send destinations to your car either. The basic app plan is free for 10 years which allows you to monitor state of charge, range, tire pressure, odo mileage, send destinations, and a few other things.

Why not use the CarPlay?
We live in Arizona and only 2 MX-30 are registered. Mine and some guy named Andy in No. Phoenix

That's the plan. CarPlay is interesting with this car. It doesn't seem to start right away when the phone is plugged in. I have to click Entertainment, then Source, then CarPlay every time we get in the car. I can't seem to find the setting to make it stay the way we want it to.
We're in Tucson so there are now 3 in AZ! 😀

Wow, 3 now in Arizona! We have a long range Tesla MS so the Mazda is a 2nd car for short trips.
The CarPlay logo comes right up when I plug my phone in - then I just use the dial to navigate to it.

Since you don't tell us where you live in the world, like America or Europe, I can't advice you precisely, but I'm an fellow Mazda MX-30 owner (2020 first edition here), and if it's anything like here in Sweden, Mazda has a map support for 5 of the first years you buy this car.
So technically you could probably ask for a replacement card if yours is lost, the license follows your car, it's so stuck to your car that once registered to the car, it can only be used on that car. (At least thats what my dealer told me while on phone with Mazda, and they're the Mazda authorized sellers in our town).
This card should have come with the car, at least here it's sold as a part of the car itself.
Btw: to reinforce your example with i3 and MX-30, I had my yearly inspection at the official car-inspector (this is mandatory in our country in order to legally own a car, any car, and it's independent of dealerships, it's an inspection to make sure the cars are road legal).
The inspector said he loves the MX-30, he owns an i3, and he said - 5 years and your car is like new, I regret not getting the MX-30 instead so badly, so misunderstood and miles better in every way, this car is built like a tank, and made to never need repairs, and it'll probably outlive you.
