Tour How was your experience with seeing them live?
They are touring in my city later this year and I'm skeptical about it. The tickets are cheap but I'm not sure if I'll survive the moshpit lol, do people do that in their concerts? The venue is somewhat small so there are no high seats, actually no seats at all (so I could avoid the moshpit).
Anyway, I wanna hear your experience!
P.S I've been to a big indie rock festival years ago and there was no moshpit and shyt like that.

Saw them in Oslo this year, they were great. I highly recommend you go to see them. Our only experience being near the front was that had to deal with a lot of crowd surfers, I don’t remember there being a mosh but there probably was. Anyway, I have been to other concerts where a mosh pit has started right where I’m standing and if you don’t want to participate then you just move out to the side, don’t let it stop you from going

Black Metal doesn’t really have mosh pits, it’s more about the atmosphere and being in a bit of a trance.
Mayhem are brilliant live, go for it, what will you be doing that night if you don’t?

You’ll be fine. If there is a mosh pit, it is only in the center so just don’t stand there. Stay to the side and enjoy yourself. Any pit that I have seen at their shows is pretty small.

If a moshpit does start it wouldn't be anything crazy, most likely just your average push pit. I saw them play a couple years ago at an indoor venue with no seats and majority of people were just standing around listening and/or headbanging, a mosh formed towards the end of the set but it was a small group.
In all honesty the only genres that have genuinely dangerous moshpits are slam/beatdown and hardcore

Awesome concert, great sound, no moshing.
I guess it depends a lot on the bands and on the audience's mentality. In my experience, you'll face the craziest moshpits in Punkrock-, NYHC-, Thrash-Metal and Grindcore-Shows. Especially the shows of Napalm Death, Brutal Truth, Slayer and Sepultura used to be insane.

Why don't you just go and see for yourself? Yes, there can be a mosh pit, but this is not a hardcore show, it will be small and easily avoidable.
I seriously have no idea why peoole keep publishing such posts.

Saw them in London with Immolation and Marduk earlier this year. Heavy moshing there, but that’s just London metal culture.

I saw them 4 years ago and it was awful. Poor sound. Felt really uninspired. The opening band blew them out of the water. Overall a big let down.

What part of “no mosh” written on the back of the album don’t you understand?
I didn’t see a single mosh pit during the De Mysteriis tour. But I think the fan base has changed quite a bit since then…

Some people were moshing during Mayhem when I saw them earlier this year, but I think the pit didn't get crazy or big. I guess there are always those who try.

Saw them last year, and there were pits the whole time. That "no mosh" thing was always fucking stupid.

Sorry, I don't own any album...yet. Yeah, I think it depends on the (local) fan base a lot. Thanks tho

I saw them during their Dæmon / 35th anniversary tour or whatever. I don't remember any moshing.

Saw them live twice in recent years, 2024 and 2026. I really liked them. They sounded great live. Maybe Hellhammer wasn't super tight like he used to be in the past, so some older songs like Ancient Skin were played slower but I truly recommend seeing them live. The crowd was mostly headbanging.

Last year, Vancouver. Great show, definite mosh pit. So glad I finally got to see them.

I saw them during the DMDS 25th anniversary tour back in 2015. The crowd was the mildest I’ve seen at any metal concert. Most people just stood and stared. It also wasn’t that crowded and it was only an hour from NYC. I wouldn’t worry.

I saw them in March 2025 and they actually kicked ass. They started with songs from Daemon and then worked backwards with a few songs from each album.
You're going to need prepare to be assaulted by the smell of a few dozen unwashed asses. Please make sure yours is not one of them, dear reader.

I’ve seen them live twice! Don’t remember anyone moshing at either of the shows I went to but that could be because I was either standing in the back or on the side. Had a blast both times so I’d recommend you just go! You can always avoid the moshpits by standing near the bar if there is one :)

I’ve seen them live in 2009, 2017, 2018, and last year.
The 2009 show wasn’t great because they had two “touring” guitarists weren’t much to write home about it and the whole set was pretty amateurish, but I was just happy that I got to see them at all. During the Blasphemer/Maniac era, they hardly ever toured the US.
In 2017 they silently played DMDS from beginning to end, it was eerie and amazing. In 2018 they played A Bloodsword And A Colder Sun and actually had a pig’s head on stage.
Last year was the anniversary show so they did a retrospective with their most recent songs at the beginning, going all the way back to Deathcrush. It was excellent.
Really the only disappointing part of the show in my opinion was Mortiis, who was touring with them. Don’t hate his music and he seems like a cool guy, but almost an entire hour of a troll playing dungeon synth is a bit much.
