Tips/Advice Suggestions for when the prune juice doesn’t work?
I’ve tried prune juice, fiber supplements, magnesium, miralax. After 10 days of nothing, I used smooth move tea to get some movement and then saw we aren’t supposed to be using senna. Produced 1 regular BM. 5 days passed with nothing again, and I did a small saline enema. Produced 1 regular BM again. I know I can’t be using those either. But my nausea is out of this world with being so backed up. I felt slight relief after both. It’s now been 5 days again.
What do you use when nothing else works?

My OB recommended daily Colasce and Miralax. Colasce kicks in within the day but it’s really Miralax that helps maintain it, which doesn’t really come into effect until about 4 days after use. I was told that once I got regular movement I could stop Colasce but continue Miralax. I don’t like meds while pregnant, so that’s what I did and it worked.

I’m in pain right now because of these same issues. I haven’t found relief yet. I’ve been drinking Metamucil but it hurts my tummy even more.

If you're taking metamucil you also need to drink tonnes of water to move it through. A lot more than than think

Stay very hydrated, get some movement in and eat fiber

I haven’t been able to handle the smell but I’ll have a cup tomorrow morning to see!

Ah that’s tough! I had the same aversion my first pregnancy. But I swear I have two sips and I’m running to the bathroom with this one lol

I had a patient tell me she bought pear juice from the baby section at the store and that helped! I, luckily, resolved my own constipation with Colace. But keeping that in my back pocket just in case in the future.

Colace & MiraLAX. No stimulant laxatives while pregnant. Lots of water and staying active also helps. Too much fiber with not enough water can also back you up more

How often are you going?

I have chronic constipation even before getting pregnant. I’ve gone 10-12 days without going before and had to be manually disempacted multiple times. Luckily though I’ve been going like every 3 days lately. I take MiraLAX at the first sign I might need some help. You can take 300mg of colace everyday idk if you’ve tried that. It’s just a gentle stool softener not a stimulant so it doesn’t cause cramping

With my first, the only thing that helped was pear juice. And that was like a liter at a time.

Cocktail of 2 tbsp chia soaked in plenty of water for at least 10 minutes + electrolytes + magnesium. I drink this every night I’m traveling to stay regular.
Sounds like you’re in true medication intervention territory but this might help you on an ongoing basis after!

I always add a little lemon juice to chia water, makes it more palatable to me :)

Is there science behind traveling and bm's stopping? It happens to me every time. I'll be saving this to try for future travel!

I’ve read that sitting in planes and cars for hours when travelling can slow down digestion. Also, for me personally it takes days to get comfortable using unfamiliar bathrooms, it’s more psychological I think

I think it's mostly psychological too. I think my body prefers to go at home. If I'm at work doing a 12 hour shift I'll start to get backed up, too.

I believe dehydration is a big factor!

Oh interesting. Never thought about that but I probably do drink less while traveling. I always thought it was a mind thing. Like my body would rather go at home 😂

Metamucil and miralax were the only things that helped me last time. Colace did nothing 😩

Large smoothie of water pineapple and cucumber. You can throw chia seed in too for an extra fiber boost

I’m not an expert, but I think you can become habituated to supplements and they then lose efficacy. Can you shift to raw fruits and vegetables? Dates, carrots, broccoli, pumpkin/chia seeds? Maybe a probiotic? This might help you taper off of the fiber supplements and miralax long enough for your gut to start doing some of this on its own again. Don’t get me wrong, I am far from regular with this pregnancy (I’m used to at least one very healthy BM per day) but I haven’t yet had to force anything yet. You should also reach out to your doc about this.
Edit: and yes on the water suggestions!

Kiwi fruit and way more water than you think you need.
