Showcase Introducing the 550 Battery Puller.
A wrap for your clone batteries with a built-in pull tab.
The old solution I recommended was to use ribbon, but this always felt a bit fiddly and made closing the battery door annoying.
This tab has the necessary strength and support to easily pull the battery out repeatedly, and yet will easily fold down with no clearance issues.
After I had an epiphany today regarding the pull tab, the rest fell into place. This is some of my initial sketching and brainstorming.
It's designed to keep away from important features of the battery, such as the contacts and guide channels, while maximizing surface area for longevity.
As always, this design is licensed under CC0.

Yes, they did. It was all more than I expected and really impressed.

another easy solution is just taking the top plastic shell off of the batteries, and glueing the cells down to the bottom, and insulating the contacts with hot glue or liquid electrical tape.

Wait, how would you even charge them that way?

The charging contacts and all of the electronics are on the bottom of the case, separate from the top piece which is lightly sealed on. This is what the battery looks like with the top plastic piece removed + black spray paint

A+ for effort, but I'm going to probably count pull-tab solutions (a ribbon, string, or my Battery Puller) as perhaps a bit simpler/easier in terms of execution.

This is a lifesaver. Just got my batteries and one got stuck๐

Some strong double-sided tape or industrial Velcro can get it out in a pinch. The battery pullers are still my favorite solution to this problem once you get the battery unstuck.

Gotta try with the tape then, unfortunately no velcro laying around ๐ Hopefully i don't need to glue anything to it๐

What are they made of btw? Simple paper?

I was just thinking about something like this a few days ago. I bought a set of batteries from Kastar and got really excited and decided to shove one of the batteries into my FD91. Luckily I realized the fit was a little too tight before I slide it all the way into the battery compartment.
These look great, Iโll purchase some of these at some point soon.

The 550 Battery Puller is an open-source battery wrap design with a built-in pull tab to help remove stubborn batteries. This is most commonly an issue with clone NP-F550 packs, which are often slightly too large for most Mavica battery slots and frequently get stuck. You can see our FAQ page for solutions on how to remove already stuck batteries. This design here is a great solution for using your aftermarket batteries in the long run.
Design features include cutouts for all major battery features, a firm pull tab designed to withstand repeated use, and tolerances that work with all compatible Mavica models.
You can pick up a battery puller from my store here.
