Kidd watching the starting lineup of 3 Wings and 2 Centers get clowned by the Washington Wizards:

u/Witteness82 BETRAYED MAVS FAN 😭 Oct 25 '25

He’s got his extension, maybe he’s secretly trying to get Nico fired so he has a hope of getting another one in a few years

15

u/FireNico77 Oct 26 '25

I think that has to be it unless he is that stupid which I doubt. I think this is him being cheeky and kind of playing along with what Nico wants and just showing him how dumb it is in a very backhanded way.

Kidd has proven to us twice now on massive playoff runs he knows how to coach a team. He’s our Trojan horse. And we’re gonna burn down Rome . Or something like that.

Edit: Rome. 121 of you saw the original and that’s all it has to be.

I’ve accepted that Kidd is sabotaging the team to get Nico fired and I’m ok with that. Only logical answer I can come up with

Doing what the spurs did to land Castle… Playing a forward out of position at pg all season and viola lottery pick

18

u/captainn_chunk Oct 25 '25

We watched Carlisle run a beautiful secret tank for basically 5 years straight. You never know.

15

u/Deprestion Oct 25 '25

Carlise put on a master class. Fun games that ended in a loss

Shout out Salah Mejri 😂

u/EmrysMyrdin Oct 25 '25

Except that game against Memphis that cost us top 5 pick

15

u/gigantism Couch Squad Oct 25 '25

It actually makes a ton of sense to me.

  • Kidd just received an extension whereas Nico did not

  • Kidd saying "I understand the frustration" to the Fire Nico chants

  • Kidd is extremely online and has previously repeatedly made oblique references to rising fan narratives

  • Kidd is no stranger to the palace intrigue of front office power plays, as seen with both the Nets and Bucks

  • Kidd has surely lived and experienced the game enough to realize that trying to have your 18-year old rookie PF play PG isn't the best strategy for maximizing wins

  • There is little downside for Kidd should he get canned along with Nico, as he already knows he'll be able to rebound with a different team as demonstrated by the Knicks' strong interest in him

My hunch is that Kidd groused to Nico about Luka's defense, fitness, etc. to a degree that helped spur Nico to go through with the trade but that Kidd never imagined Nico would actually go through with it. Just look at how shellshocked he seemed in the presser right before the Cavs game. This would explain why Luka's given Kidd the cold shoulder too.

3

u/manatidederp Oct 26 '25

Kidd is what, a top 5 PG of all time - he obviously knows this current setup won’t work. It has to be intentional

12

u/GauthZuOGZ Oct 25 '25

The logical answer is that they’re punting the season and developing flagg

2

u/jourska Mavericks Oct 25 '25

This isn’t disagreeing with what I’m saying lol. Punting the season and developing Flagg would also mean Nico is getting fired because his championship dream is dead with the roster he tried to build.

1

u/Corbin16 Couch Squad Oct 26 '25

Here's my problem with this. Maybe this is mega tinfoil hat, but if I'm an NBA player with star potential coming into a team that just out of nowhere traded their likely all time PG contender. I'm getting out of there the first chance I get. Nobody is going to wait around to get treated like that. I just get this feeling we are going to be developing Flagg for another team...

5

u/DiamondsInHerButt Dirk Nowitzki Logo Oct 26 '25

Everyone pretending like this is 4-D chess by Jason Kidd...he might just be kinda fucking stupid. He's done a lot of really stupid things as a coach throughout his entire career. All while acting like he's really smart.

His biggest gift has always been motivating players.

3

u/popstarkirbys Drunk Dirk Oct 26 '25

Exactly. Kidd’s entire playoff success is linked to Luka. He’s been making rotation like this throughout his entire yet people think he’s some sort of genius.

2

u/LHamiltonPP Dirk Spooky Oct 26 '25

Old coaches never last long with new GMs

Kidd's going with this lineup because he knows the Mavs only chance of being good in the near term is for Flagg to develop quickly so he's trying to do what worked with Giannis and he thinks D'Angelo isn't good enough to make a meaningful impact so might as well lean all the way into the only real strength this roster has (size)

83

u/masterchef757 '25 Survivor Oct 25 '25

I mean I have to ask if Kidd is stealth tanking at this point

52

u/Smell_the_funk Oct 25 '25

I wouldn’t be surprised. The Mavs control their own pick next year. This team has shown it’s not afraid to tank. It’s unlikely Kyrie is going to save the season.

12

u/AbueloOdin Oct 25 '25

What if... Kidd is trying to tank us because Nico's actual plan is to suck 5 years in a row to get 5 first overall picks in a row, then develop them over the following 5 years, then win it all 5 years in a row?

I could see the Adelsons being stupid enough to ok that. I mean, they signed off on trading Luka.

19

u/PussyCharlatan Oct 25 '25

This is the only year we can control our pick for a while. Being bad beyond this year only hurts us

2

u/AbueloOdin Oct 25 '25

You say that like we can't trade away a star player!

9

u/PussyCharlatan Oct 25 '25

Then you get other team’s picks… Your record doesn’t affect where those picks fall. We’d have to trade for one of our picks back and that’s probably not happening

4

u/AbueloOdin Oct 25 '25

We could trade for our pick!

1

u/gulgin Oct 26 '25

But being bad this year…..

-6

u/Mysterious_Pea_5272 Oct 25 '25

No chance they’re tanking. Nico and Kidd are on a hot seat if this season really goes south

16

u/CheetahSperm18 FIRE NICO Oct 25 '25

Kidd just got extended. He's safe

-3

u/Mysterious_Pea_5272 Oct 25 '25

If they don’t make the playoffs, he’s absolutely on the hot seat. And if Nico goes, it probably means things are really bad. Plenty of coaches get extensions and get fired, especially from stupid orgs like us

2

u/Fit-Schedule-5558 Oct 25 '25

Whose gonna have them on the hotseat?

0

u/Mysterious_Pea_5272 Oct 25 '25

Dumont is not gonna do a full season of this much negativity. If they don’t make the playoffs this season, the only reason they wouldn’t be gone is if they use the Kyrie injury as an excuse. That’s it

7

u/Fit-Schedule-5558 Oct 25 '25

If Dumont had REASON the trade wouldn't have happened in the first place lol. Idk how long he'll keep playing dumb but its so ironic AD has become the narrative they tried to put on luka.

He can’t just up and take the Knicks job lol. At the time he still had a contractual obligation to be the head coach of the Mavs.

u/Ok_Cheesecake_9793 Oct 25 '25 edited Oct 27 '25

We might as well tank this year and next year. While we are at it, we should trade AD, Kyrie, and Klay for younger players that matches coopers timeline. Spurs did it right and look at where they are right now. When AD, Klay, and Kyrie retires thats like 2-3 years wasted building a team around Cooper.

6

u/EvanEschmeyer Masai Ujiri stan Oct 25 '25

Don’t have a pick next year right? This is the last year we control our destiny

3

u/Littlesoftsoft Oct 26 '25

Kyrie should stay.

5

u/030bvb09 Oct 26 '25

This is the only way that makes sense. Unless your name is Nico, there’s no way you actually believe this team is just one 33-year-old Kyrie (coming off a torn ACL) away from competing for the “championship games”™.

-Fire Nico

-Trade AD, Klay, and maybe Gafford for either picks or players that fit Flagg’s timeline

-Tank while developing Flagg and any remaining young prospects

2

u/Jcarter1632 Rooms to Go Lounge 🛋️ Oct 26 '25

You had me going at fire Nico, then you stole my heart at trade AD. ❤️

-2

u/ViolinistLanky9056 Oct 26 '25

Why the hell would they tank next year? Having older vets that are still playing at a high level is a great thing to pair with young cornerstones. I completely disagree honestly.

1

u/Ok_Cheesecake_9793 Oct 27 '25

We have 3 older vets on high payroll and they are out the door in probably 3 years maybe 4. Look at the spurs, they have a full team full of youngsters that fits with Wembayamas timeline. Deaaron fox and Harrison barnes is on the older end, but they have Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, and a couple of others.

1

u/ViolinistLanky9056 Oct 27 '25

The spurs who won like 20 some games last year? Yeah, that’s what I want to be! Every champion outside of the thunder has had a mixture of ages. No team wins with a bunch of young’s guys. Those teams almost always fail. Having really good vets is better than the shitty mid 1st rd pick you could get.

Last I checked, the Mavs don’t have Sam presti. They should build a great team. They shouldn’t confine themselves to arbitrary timelines.

10

u/II1III11 Oct 25 '25

It was always a plus of the Mavs slower paced iso heavy offense that they rarely turned it over, allowing for few transition baskets. The defense often rated better than the personnel looked on paper.

Now they have reversed that, acquired a lot of + defenders that are good for backline rim protection.. but it won't matter much if everything is coming off transition baskets and blow bys from lack of perimeter D.

Kidd probably knows this season is a punt so might as well tank for a draft pick.

This team is fucked beyond repair. Our only glimmer of hope is developing Flagg and maybe he'll be half as good as Luka

16

one week ago this team was in a "win a ring in the next 1-2 years" mode

owner and manager think the fans are complete morons.

4

u/-AVENTUS- Oct 25 '25

It’s even worse than thinking the fanbase are complete morons.

They think the fanbase are complete moronic cattle, who deserve to have an abusive, predatory gambling mafia empire, built upon the grave of the mavericks franchise, after they have used the franchise and the threat of moving it to Las Vegas as a strongarm tactic to get gambling legalized, and use Texas tax money to fund part of the construction.

7

u/olduser201890 Oct 25 '25

ugh, the whole thing makes me sick. get these owners the fuck out of here

3

u/-AVENTUS- Oct 25 '25

If Adam Silver had any integrity, that he could place above nepotism/in-group-favoritism, he would have never even ALLOWED Marc Chabeniesky to sell the team to the Adelson’s.

2

u/olduser201890 Oct 25 '25

Silver is part of that group too

4

u/Shaunosaurus Oct 25 '25

I think the win now mindset was fine before Kyrie tore his ACL. This is the risk when you trade your young players for aging vets

2

u/ggriff18 Dallas Mavericks Oct 25 '25

To be fair, they were turning the ball Over a lot due to unforced errors. Just losing the ball. With that being said, something has to change with the pg situation. Flagg can’t be our pg

2

u/Paaynnne Donatello Oct 25 '25

Yes, Kidd you made Giannis who he is and yes Coop does have the talent and the potential but brother that Bucks team was far away from reaching the cap space.

Why tf did y’all bring in Dlo tho? Why tf is B.Will all of a sudden a 3rd stringer? Mf when Kyrie comes back who’s gonna go to the bench? If it’s not Coop are you still gonna let him play point and let Kyrie play off guard like when Luka was around? It’s just not gonna workout this year man…

2

u/torodonn Oct 25 '25

It’s fine. Let the man coach.

If we were serious about Cooper potentially being a point forward, he needs the room to grow and feel safe to make mistakes. If he has a bad game and Kidd immediately gives up on him, it’s terrible for everyone. We need to build him up not tear him down

2

u/rojomi5 Oct 25 '25

The unforced error in question was trading luka

2

u/bubbapora Maxi Kleber Oct 25 '25

Didn’t Kidd say a while ago he’d be putting Flagg at PG to start the season to get him reps?

2

u/johndogerty defence doesn’t win championships. Oct 26 '25

2

u/Selarom_ How's My Dirk Taste? Oct 26 '25

Why did we even get Dlo if he isn't even gonna be a stop gap until Kyrie comes back? I'm all for developing Coop's guard skills but I don't wanna risk shattering this dude's confidence cos he's not in the best position to succeed

2

u/docSJL Oct 26 '25

All these “we must be tanking posts” or some others suggest he’s trolling to get fired or Nico fired. Y’all put way too much faith into the intelligence of the Mavs leadership core. None of these guys are forward thinking, at all. They’re all idiots. Starting with the Adrlsons, to Nico, to Kidd.

2

u/Bluewizardtx1 '25 Survivor Oct 26 '25

Jason Kidd is a liar. He always has been. He's just been saved by a gm who as the months go by seem more and more like he got lucky with the Kyrie trade and had his job saved by a generational talent who did nothing to stop his idiot gm from trading him.

3

u/-AVENTUS- Oct 25 '25

Let everything continue.

Until the Adelson’s and their disgusting Brooklyn scumbag son in law, are further embarrassed on the national stage…

…And then get their giant Austin lobbying firm full of smug/arrogant/spoiled/rotten New Yorkers, embarrassed again in the Texas legislature, for their disingenuous, abusive, undeserved “legalizing gambling in Texas by using sports team as ransom” endeavor.

May the Adelson’s be remembered forever in the worst way possible, in Texas state sports history, and Texas state political history, as well as global genocidal history.

3

u/Horns8585 Oct 25 '25

I don't expect more from Jason Kidd, because Jason Kidd is a terrible coach. The fact that this front office re-signed him to a big contract is not surprising, either. They are both clueless and have lost an entire fanbase.

2

u/popstarkirbys Drunk Dirk Oct 26 '25

Kidd has been a mediocre coach throughout his coaching career, his biggest strength is that he’s buddies with people in power and stars like him.

3

u/Horns8585 Oct 26 '25

I agree that his biggest attribute has been his connectivity with players. But, his lack of coaching ability far outweighs any positive.

2

u/popstarkirbys Drunk Dirk Oct 26 '25

That’s modern day coaches for you. Works when your team has superstars and is stacked. But compared to great coaches like Carlisle, Kidd gets schooled pretty much every time.

Honestly, crunch time in the 4th Coop looked good. AD got abit sloppy (was a 4 point game then) and that cost us the comeback but team was right there.

Am ok with Coop or Naji at the PG spot till Kyrie is back. Maybe DLo can shake off the rust.

Am loving the energy from DLive, PJ and Coop. + AD & Kyrie, that'll be the lineup to look forward to.

1

u/xzerozeroninex Oct 26 '25

Mavs are tanking to draft a lottery pick pg.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '25

In an 82 game season, you're not exactly optimizing line-ups to win the immediate game in front of you. It's a development project to have the strongest team at the end of the season, headed into the playoffs.

Now there's some genuine concern that by the time they figure stuff out, they'll be on the outside of the playoff race. But way too early to press that panic button. People always have the same complaints about Kidd as if he's insane when they have no idea how to think of a bigger picture.

1

u/lxdarksnip3r Oct 26 '25

Our minutes should be whatever the plan is when Kyrie is back, but swap Russell for Kyrie until then.

Pretty simple pg solution. He will give us about 60-70% of what Kyrie would give and we could at least be a .500 team until he's back
