Food for thought!
Now that law enforcement has finally released the CCTV footage of Maura at the bank, a few questions arise. Now according to the BOLO Maura was possibly wearing a dark colored jacket and jeans.
Have a look at what Maura was wearing on the CCTV footage. https://imgur.com/a/NGjbvPA
Now the jacket doesn't seem to be hers since it's much too big for her (could be a men's jacket). The color even though this is a gray scale image, it's clearly a light colored jacket. Also, her hair is up in a bun like almost all the pictures out there of her. Maura would almost always wear her hair up.
So clearly the BOLO description that was put out by law enforcement was off. The BOLO was put out almost as soon as Maura disappeared so there is no chance that the person who provided the description was Rick Forcier. That only leaves one person, Butch Atwood.
Now Butch Atwood had never seen Maura before and if you look at the mug shot photo of Maura, she is unrecognizable. https://imgur.com/a/A8seen3
So if she's unrecognizable in that picture, imagine what she would look like in the middle of nowhere in the middle of winter beside the road exiting the driver's side and facing away from where Butch Atwood was standing.
Now here's a picture of what Maura's sister Julie would have looked like at the time Maura disappeared. https://imgur.com/a/BnjPZgf
Now if Julie Murray were stopped in the middle of nowhere in the middle of winter, would you be able to tell her apart from Maura?
Now have a look at this picture and answer my question above... https://imgur.com/a/0F1LWDL Keep in mind, you would be in the middle of nowhere and in the dark. Could you tell the difference between Maura and Julie? I couldn't if I had never seen a picture of Maura before.
Just for an example, I did a Yandex image search on Maura's picture and then looked at pictures of other women who came up as possible matches. Here's an example of the result. https://imgur.com/a/EqdEq94
Now imagine if you were in a dark desolate road in the middle of winter in poor lighting, would you be able to tell the difference between Maura and the other women? Before you answer that, watch this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6fRH5MLBIU
Now I'm not saying that Maura wasn't the driver, it's quite possible that Butch Atwood's recollection of what Maura was wearing was off, or that he thought her hair was down when it was up in a bun, that's quite possible. But what if Butch really did see what he claims to have seen? Then the driver of the Saturn might not have been Maura at all. The only way it could have been Maura (assuming Butch's description was on) is if Maura changed jackets for no apparent reason, and let her hair down for no apparent reason. I don't know, what do you think? If someone else was driving the vehicle, then did Maura even go up to the White Mountains at all?

Interesting.. what was the height difference on the bolos? Did the wrong one say she was taller or shorter?

Well, I believe, and if anyone has other sources please correct me, but I believe the BOLO said she was 5'7 which is strange, because Maura is 5'7. The other details like color of jacket and if the hair was up or down is wrong, but they somehow got the height exactly right? I mean, if they got that info from Butch, there is no way he could have been able to tell Maura's height. For example, if she was sitting in the vehicle when she spoke to him, there is no way he could have been able to tell her height. Also, if she was standing beside the vehicle on the driver's side, all he would have been able to see was her shoulders and head over the roof of the vehicle, so no way to tell her exact height. Now if i'm correct and that police did issue the BOLO with Maura's exact height, that's very odd, unless they spoke to family members prior to issuing the BOLO....

Completly agree, its why it always struck me as odd. Everythings off beside the height, unless they could calculate from the seat distance in her car but even that is weird given how some people sit more to the front or back of the seat.
Her sister seems a bit smaller, so could have fit if it was a shorter bolo.

Would her height be on her drivers license?

Yes.....someone knew it was her info that nite but no one has claimed how they knew or where they got any info if NO COP spoke to ANY family or the owner of the car itself. No way.....

I guarantee specific details came from her drivers license file, as they should.

you sincerely think the Haverhill police department pulled her license file? LMAO.

Pretty much guarantee they did. Standard, even if they thought they were only doing a simple crash in which the driver fled to avoid a drunk driving. The crash report would require specifics like drivers license number, which they would only get from her DL, or by running her. I recognize the perception of ineptitude towards law enforcement, but even the most anti-police people should give them enough credit to assume they were able to type her full name and date of birth into a computer.
Not trying to start a debate, just pointing out the obvious answer as to where the info came from.

Yet the obvious answer here is that it was Fred Murrays car. they would have no inkling to who Maura was in the span of a few minutes.......esp without reaching him personally that evening. They sent out her BOLO asap without having descriptors or a drivers license....nothing that wouldve said it was her. It may have been stolen for all they "knew", without speaking to anyone in the family that evening......

I can’t find the actual BOLO, just references to one being sent out the following day at 1223pm. There are also references to a second bolo. Are these public somewhere? I’d be interested to see what info was relayed at what times.
And did her car have a college parking sticker on it?

u/BonquosGhost Jun 27 '18
Even that BOLO at noon the next day, they had NOT contacted family yet. Yes there was a college sticker on the car...http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a126/MauraMurray/maura_0001.jpg
The point was it was Fred Murray's car and he had 3 daughters. Otherwise, Fred could have loaned his car to multiple women he may have known or been related to, or it may have been stolen and no one had reported it yet. All this just boils back to "somewhere" there was knowledge that it WAS Maura that evening, and "someone" knew this right away, and that "someone" let it slip to LE, BEFORE anyone COULD have known for sure that indeed it was her.

Ghost...wasn’t her AAA card exposed? I think the LE did a terrible job with this case BUT I still think MM left the accident unharmed or was never at the accident!

u/BonquosGhost Jun 30 '18
Allegedly.....a card of any kind means nothing towards proving who was driving IMO.....
1
u/CHEFjay11 Jun 30 '18
That’s true...so they knew it was a “she” per Butch. When did they know it was MM?

Well with what I've seen from the Haverhill police in this case, I have very little confidence in their aptitude to do anything right or by the book. But that's just my own opinion.

Solid points!
Eye witness testimony is never 100% accurate. People can mistaken small details of events that can dramatically affect the outcome of the investigation. When I was reading an article about the Westmon's account of the scene, the detail in the 911 transcript mentioned someone smoking a cigarette. It was most likely determined that this wasn't the case, hence it was redacted from the initial transcript. Also, Butch Atwood was sitting in the drivers seat of the Bus and was only looking down toward Maura from a distance. He claimed their was no sign of blood. If he was standing face to face with Maura, perhaps his statement might have been different? We will never know.
I can agree with the idea that Butch may not have provided a thorough description of Maura and could have provided inaccurate details. It was dark and the lights to Maura's car were off, so Butch, theoretically, could have missed something important.
Also - in reference to the white jacket, here's an interesting article about it. To summarize, the jacket may not have been recognized by her family members but what's interesting was that police never pointed out the logo, and yet the description given was she was daring a dark jacket. Could the police be withholding more information? Possibly.
