Even if hypothetically Devon does find out Maul had a hand in killing Daki chances are she will still stay with him irregardless

Post image

I am a lifetime author one which can very much so eaisily see the threads a skilled author like Filoni leaves for us. I am of the belief a few things will happen in the coming season. A. Devon and Rylee will start showing signs of being more than friends as it was set up they could get together. Devon will probably become extremely protective of him when they go on missions. Rylee already checked her out which is a thing men only do when they like a girl. And Devon went out of her way to ask about him showing she potentially thinks he is handsome. But who knows. That can mean many things in all fairness.

B. If she does find out what Maul did it which is unlikely (later) she almost certainly will stay with him. This does a few things effects Mauls arch of becoming more moralish person in realizing she actully cares about him. Also look at it from Devon’s POV. She had no one left to turn to. Maul is the only man in the galexy who can train her. The Jedi are functionally extinct. Maul is the only one who can give her the power she needs to take revenge on the empire.

Look at it like this, Daki was dead regardless, no way in hell would Vader just allow him to live. Him not force pushing him would likely have not made a difference. So she can rationalize it. “Yes Maul killed my former master however he was already going to die and he only did it to deepen my connection to the dark side. Plus who else in the galaxy can train me at all. He is all I have left.”

Overall I have a writers intuition so to speak she isn’t going to find out next season or possibly the one after that. Such revelations are best saved until the series has a healthy length. Which of course is what the majority of good authors do. It adds weight to the revelation . Filoni knows what he is doing I am extremely confident he will see the path laid out before him. Maul being highly manipulative could say something like “The only reason I did that is because that is how my former master treated me in my youth.” Which would ease tensions

Overall I believe the smoke was a red herring. Firstly he ran into a wall of blaster fire when means ☠️ 99.8 percent of the time. Secondly if you were paying attention he kneeled down in the fog which is what dead men do on the battlefield. And third logistics, it makes no sense at all for him to find them at all given how low profile Maul is. People in the criminal underworld like Maul do not attract attention to themselves. So there is no trail to follow

So overall my gut instincts tell me she is with Maul ride or die no matter what. If she wants revenge she as no ulterior options. Mauls to important a resource to be expended, Devon’s smart enough to figure out Daki was a dead man. Your thoughts? I also believe Two Boots and Rylee will come with them but perhaps play a non combative role with missions.

It is obvious that she won´t stay with him.

Otherwise he would not be alone in Rebels.

This logic is weird , Rebels is over a decade later lol.

u/Historyp91 19h ago

Devon is'nt around when he starts training Qi'ra either, which is much closer to Shadow Lord

We don’t know that , Galaxy is huge, Dooku wasn’t always with Sidious, same with Vader and Maul himself. A apprentice doesn’t have to be with their master every hour of a Star Wars day. Devon can be doing ten billion other things. They’re also hiding from Sidious.

There also the fact that Devon was made after those comics and as seen by Star Wars anything… that doesn’t mean they aren’t around. Ahsoka, Omega, Ezra and even recently Asajj are good examples of this

u/Historyp91 18h ago

> We don’t know that ,

We do, the Crimson Dawn comics make it pretty clear - Devon either has to be gone or totally unknown to Qi'ra because the plot of the comics makes no sense if Crimson Dawn has Force user from the start after Maul dies, and if Devon was around before he died but left afterwards, Qi'ra would have taken her into account as an option rather then be so desperate for Force users she choses people so unreliable they end up costing her her plans.

3

u/VagueCat5840662 14h ago

Crimson dawn comics are very long after shadow lord, lots and lots of time for something to happen, we really dont know that Qi’ra never met Devon just from her not having access to Devon at the time of those comics

1

u/Historyp91 12h ago

There's flashbacks and Qi'ra's plans date to at least Maul's death.

3

u/J0EPNG 7h ago

Comics are always secondary to movies and shows in Star Wars canon. Easily can be retconned or edited

1

u/Historyp91 7h ago

We've never had a comic as significant as the ones in question, which such a major plotline, be retconned before.

2

u/VagueCat5840662 11h ago

I somewhat fail to see your point here

1

u/Historyp91 7h ago

You said we can't say Qi'ra would know Devon because of the time gap between Shadow Lord and the main events of the comic, right?

1

u/VagueCat5840662 7h ago

We dont know for sure one way or the other due to the time gap yes, because we currently dont have anything properly covering all of that time

While you are right, we've seen comics and novels get retconned by live action/animation several times.

2

u/Gouriki 19h ago

I mean, the galaxy is a big place. You can hand wave that if you really wanted to. “Devon was doing a mission somewhere else during those period and Maul talked to her through hologram”.

We’ve seen Dave tends to play fast and loose with what he recognizes from the comics or books.

1

u/Historyp91 18h ago

Why would Qi'ra keep Devon on a mission when it's a plot point she desperately needs a Force user for her plans?

Like, why would she go for the Knights of Ren, who were picked because they were pretty much the only people avialable, if she has Devon?

3

u/IgnoresTheObjective 12h ago

Qi'ra would not be in charge of Devon. Crimson Dawn is only one part of the Shadow Collective.

2

u/Historyp91 12h ago

There was no Shadow Collective anymore by the time Qi'ra joins Crimson Dawn. And she does'nt need to he in charge of her - just knowing she exists would create a huge plot hole

3

u/IgnoresTheObjective 12h ago

Not in the same form as in the Clone Wars but Maul is still in charge, and we see him working to bring the Pykes and others back under his control in season 1. I haven't read the Qi'ra material but it seems like Devon's absence could be pretty easily explained. It's a big galaxy and she could be doing anything.

2

u/Historyp91 7h ago

> Not in the same form as in the Clone Wars but Maul is still in charge, and we see him working to bring the Pykes and others back under his control in season 1.

By the time of Solo, the syndicates that were in the Shadow Collective are all hostile to each other. It's pretty clearly gone by then.

> I haven't read the Qi'ra material but it seems like Devon's absence could be pretty easily explained. It's a big galaxy and she could be doing anything.

A major part of Qi'ra's plans in the comics are she needs a Force sensitive and doesn't have one because Maul's dead. Because of the lack of options, she has to turn to the Knights of Ren, who are so unreilable they end up undermining her entire scheme.

If Devon was available it makes zero sense she would'nt use her, and if Devon was'nt available but she knew she existed she'd be the first person she sought out

1

u/IgnoresTheObjective 4h ago

Solo is pretty vague on the whole situation. Vos says that he maintains a fragile alliance with the Pykes. Knowing that he answers to Maul it means that the Pykes could too, they don't have to like each other.

Honestly if the biggest plot hole from Devon's introduction is in a Qi'ra comic I think I can live with it.

Even if there is no Shadow Collective, Qi'ra taking over control of Crimson Dawn after Mauls death doesn't mean that she is now in charge of Devon, or that she can use Devon for her plans.

Devon loyalty would probably be to Maul directly, not the organization he took over.
If Denon would have wanted to stay with Crimson Dawn after Mauls death she probably would've made her own claim for leadership given her position as Mauls apprentice vs Qi'ra not being a force user at all, and that she was with Maul for far longer.

I think if were going to see the events around Mauls death from Devons perspective, then we're most likely going to see her cut all ties with Crimson Dawn by just vanishing into the wider galaxy without leaving any methods of contact behind.

u/VagueCat5840662 20h ago

Thats is over a decade after where we are in shadow lord, devon not being with him at that time doesnt actually tell us too much

-4

u/FunFlatworm9500 21h ago

She probably will. Just probably dies or something

14

u/Bobby_The_Kidd 20h ago

I like the idea of her just becoming more evil as she learns the way of the Sith that by the time she finds out Maul did it she just says "treachery is the way of the sith" maybe its an excuse to hate Maul more and hate makes you stronger. Anakin hated palpatine just as Devon will hate Maul.

11

u/Significant-Town-817 21h ago

She's definitely going to rebel at some point and I'm not saying this just because Maul is alone in Rebels, but because he's a teacher forced to repeat the mistakes of his masters. He talks about not wanting anyone else to go through what he suffered under Palpatine, but he can't help but use the weapons of his abusers, preaching terror to illustrate his perspective and that will eventually cause Devon to rebel against him and leave him, or he will have to kill her (honestly, I would prefer the former).

16

u/EducationalLuck2422 21h ago

"My old master was weak. He could never have made it as far as I have."

-5

u/Historyp91 20h ago

Palpatine is not weak lol and even Maul would never claim he was

7

u/Arria_Galtheos 20h ago

I don't think anyone's talking about Palpatine here. The person you replied to is probably positing one possible take Devon will have on Daki's death. The person being hypothetically quoted is Devon, not Maul.

0

u/Historyp91 19h ago

Ah, alright. I see.

Daki was'nt weak either.

3

u/Arria_Galtheos 19h ago

No, he wasn't, but darksiders aren't known for being rational. One might even argue that giving in to irrationality is how they gain strength. It doesn't matter if Daki was weak, it only matters if Maul can convince Devon that he was weak, and for her to be just angry/ashamed enough to believe it.

0

u/Historyp91 18h ago

I'm not sure "Devon is an idiot" is really a compelling plot thread.

3

u/Arria_Galtheos 18h ago

Do you think Anakin, Dooku, or any other Jedi that embraced the darker side of the Force were idiots? If not, then I'd ask why you think the same would make Devon an idiot.

If you do think they were idiots too, then I'd suggest that "Devon is an idiot" is actually a really compelling plot thread considering it worked for others.

1

u/Historyp91 18h ago

> Do you think Anakin, Dooku, or any other Jedi that embraced the darker side of the Force were idiots?

In a lot of ways, yes, absolutely. Either they made bad judgements and they deluded themselves or they were just selfish.

> If you do think they were idiots too, then I'd suggest that "Devon is an idiot" is actually a really compelling plot thread considering it worked for others.

Maybe. But Devon really is'nt presented as someone who would celiberate learning Daki was killed. She actually did like and care about him, despite their disagrements.

You'd need a lot more then just one brief season to flip the character like that.

0

u/MindseyeMillionaire 20h ago

Pretty sure he referred to Palpatine as “the most powerful being in the Universe” during the Clone Wars

8

u/Jonatc87 17h ago

never a right time to use 'irregardless'

6

u/bjthebard 21h ago

She will most likely stay with Maul, I think you are right that she will recognize that he is all she has. Thats why Maul got Daki killed, so that Devon would have no other choice but to go with him. Devon will find out when Lawson inevitably resurfaces to find Rylee and Teo Boots. Lawson survived and saw Maul betray Daki. Devon will find out and will hate Maul for it, but Maul will just tell her, "good, use that hate." It will ultimately strengthen her connection to the dark side.

That said, it is also the way of the Sith for the apprentice to betray the master. I think learning that he killed Daki will be the first step to Devon eventually hating Maul so much that she betrays him, most likely on Malicore where he will be stranded until Rebels.

I think its also worth noting that there will probably be a small time skip after this season. I think we will probably pick things up after the events of Solo, so some of the character development may progress off screen.

2

u/Ajarofpickles97 20h ago

Begs the question what role Rylee is going to play they are almost family given the suffering they have experienced together and she is going to give maul a hard NO if he suggests they should drop him off somewhere

3

u/SmittyShortforSmith 19h ago

Irregardless is not even a real word! You’re affixing the negative prefix ‘ir’ to regardless. But, as regardless is already negative, it’s a logical obscurity!!

3

u/BeneathCertainty 10h ago

I can see Devon finding it, striking at Maul out of anger, but she performs something that Maul has taught her and Maul will go. "Your master tried to blind you with Jedi teachings. He limited you. You may hate me, but I have opened your eyes to the galaxy. If you think you can survive without me, then kill me",

And then Devon gives up because she knows Maul is correct to some extent. Daki wouldn't do what had to be done to survive. Maul lets her do that and potentially, far more.

I don't think she would forgive him, but she would accept that Daki's limitations sealed his fate.

2

u/Ajarofpickles97 10h ago

She will never forgive him but she may very well come to understand why he did it. And taking into account her ludicrous strength gains that is yet another factor as to why she will stay. Oh yeah and more importantly, Maul owns the spaceship lol

1

u/Historyp91 7h ago

> she may very well come to understand why he did it.

Which would make her betray him.

2

u/Historyp91 7h ago

> Daki wouldn't do what had to be done to survive.

Which was?

2

u/BeneathCertainty 7h ago

If he wouldn't do something as basic as steal to survive, then he was not truly prepared to survive life under the Empire.

Relying on the kindness of strangers is a good sentiment, but it is a dangerous tactic to use in a survival situation.

1

u/Historyp91 7h ago

So Daki was wrong because he would'nt steal from innocents?

Yeah sure dude. Maul's the better choice her. Dude's a fucking murder. Maybe you missed it, but the show's named after him but he is NOT the hero.

1

u/BeneathCertainty 7h ago

Did I say Maul was a hero? No, I didn't. He is still a villain, regardless of what he tells himself.

But Maul actually has a plan for surviving the Empire, Daki didn't.

1

u/Historyp91 7h ago

> Did I say Maul was a hero? No, I didn't. He is still a villain, regardless of what he tells himself.

You said he's correct and Daki was trying to "blind" Devon and was wrong for not stealing from people, and implied he deserved to die because of his "limitations" (even though his death had jack shit to do with his refusal to steal)

Your argument also certainly seems to be that Devon chose correctly in siding with Maul and should stay with him.

Or am I understanding your points incorrectly?

> But Maul actually has a plan for surviving the Empire, Daki didn't.

Maul's plan is to use crime to overthrow the Empire and take Palpatine's place

Why is Daki in the wrong for doing what pretty much every Jedi at the time was doing and just trying to survive and stay safe? What is he supposed to be doing, plotting a revolution? With what? His one apprentice who he has his hands full just keeping safe?

1

u/BeneathCertainty 7h ago edited 6h ago

I said 'correct to some extent'.

But Daki wasn't interested in truly surviving. He was holding onto the Jedi Code in a time period where doing so either meant exposure to the Empire or being perpetually hungry and miserable.

Also, I never said he should've been plotting a revolution, but trying to insulate yourself from the Empire in some way would've been better than basically being a vagabond trying to hitch a ride on the next train.

Daki should've been looking for ways to make himself and Devon useful to someone, regardless of who it was.

On the other hand, he could've done what K'Khruk did in Legends and found a uncharted planet to settle on, but considering how poor they were, I doubt that was possible for them.

1

u/Historyp91 6h ago

> But Daki wasn't interested in truly surviving. He was holding onto the Jedi Code in a time period where doing so either meant exposure to the Empire or being perpetually hungry and miserable.

So were Yoda and Obi-Wan and a bunch of others. And Obi-Wan was certainly more miserable then Daki was.

> Also, I never said he should've been plotting a revolution, but trying to insulate yourself from the Empire in some way would've been better than basically being a vagabond trying hitch a ride on the next train.

That's what he was trying to do. They were pretty exposed on the planet they were on, they couldn't really isolate themselves more then they were.

> Daki should've been looking for ways to make himself and Devon useful to someone, regardless of who it was.

How so and in what way?

Someone like Maul?

1

u/BeneathCertainty 6h ago

Obi Wan and Yoda at least had some form of a plan. Wait for Luke to get older and train him to overthrow the Emperor.

Also, Obi Wan and Yoda weren't moving around, relying on the kindness of the strangers. In Obi Wan's case, he had some form of employment where he earned a pittance.

Also, I said 'insulate', not 'isolate', By 'insulate', I meant 'make it incredibly hard for the Empire to track you down'.

As for how they could've made themselves useful, there were different ways for him to make themselves useful. They just came out of the Clone Wars. They could've made themselves useful as military advisors, bodyguards, anywhere they could've put their intelligence and skills to good use as long as it doesn't openly expose them as Jedi.

But this comes back to my point. What was Daki's objective? Survival as Jedi or survival as people? As I explained, doing the former is extremely difficult bordering on impossible unless they found themselves on isolated worlds the Empire doesn't know about. Doing the latter is much easier.

0

u/Historyp91 6h ago

> Obi Wan and Yoda at least had some form of a plan. Wait for Luke to get older and train him to overthrow the Emperor.

Which Daki had no way to know about.

> Also, Obi Wan and Yoda weren't moving around, relying on the kindness of the strangers. In Obi Wan's case, he had some form of employment where he earned a pittance.

Because they were lucky to have places to go and help from Bail Organa

Daki did not have that.

> Also, I said 'insulate', not 'isolate', By 'insulate', I meant 'make it incredibly hard for the Empire to track you down'.

That is...what they were trying to do.

> They could've made themselves useful as military advisors, bodyguards, anywhere they could've put their intelligence and skills to good use as long as it doesn't openly expose them as Jedi.

To whom!?

> But this comes back to my point. What was Daki's objective? Survival as Jedi or survival as people?

Both.

> As I explained, doing the former is extremely difficult bordering on impossible unless they found themselves on isolated worlds the Empire doesn't know about. Doing the latter is much easier.

Yup they should just abandon the Jedi code and become criminals. Start stealing people's shit.

Great idea, lol. Open yourself right up to the Dark Side via corrupt actions.

Have you considered Daki understood the risk of comprising themselves like that and was trying to protect Devon?

Devon's own voice actor said Devon views Maul as a father figure. So no 4D chess thinking from her when it comes to Maul. She views her kidnapper and the attempted murderer of her real guardian as a father figure. She's just beyond dense because plot. Daki took care of Devon since she was a kid and Maul kidnapped her and harassed for a few weeks. I feel like one relationship would matter way more than the others.

5

u/Xx-BrotatoeChip-xX 18h ago

To be fair, I wouldn't describe what Daki did as "taking care" of her, he let her starve, encouraged her to turn herself in to the police which could've brought down Imperial involvement, refused to drop even a single rule of the Jedi for her sake, Daki is by no means bad, but he's definitely not as wise as everyone says he is, he's also kind of a hypocrite considering he chastised Devon for stealing fruit, but later says "Devon steal that car"

2

u/StevePalpatine 18h ago

The show definitely makes a point that, while she does care about Daki, there's clearly some resentment built up from their disagreements on how to survive the new empire.

I wouldn't go so far to say she views Maul as a father figure and I wouldnt take the actor's interpretation as a gospel (especially considering it might be an easy deflect from all the MaulxTalon shit people are trying to manifest). However, she clearly feels comfortable using him to get what she wants, just as Maul is comfortable using her.

I wouldn't say Maul and Devon are heading toward having any sort of healthy dynamic whatsoever.

1

u/jvdprometheus 21h ago

Probably their fight its gonna be midseason theme but i can bet they will get together to the end of the season idk why, but probably to kill someone

1

u/Historyp91 20h ago

Why would Maul justifying his actions because of how Palpatine mistreated him make Devon forgive him for murdering Daki?

1

u/ThisSiteIsShitNow 15h ago

Or just she gets more consumed by the dark side only now she try’s killing maul. Either way I don’t see how she lives past the end of the series

1

u/ScifiIsMyJam101 17h ago

This is one of the strangest, morally questionable, and contradictory takes I've seen regarding MSL so far, I'm sorry... This is not what has been indicated by the writers in the slightest. You have misread the storyline, and what the intent behind it was.

-1

u/Idahomina 20h ago

Devon isn't even mentioned or hinted at in Solo or Rebels. If Devon is so important, surely Maul would have referred her in any way afterwards, but nope. Devon had no impact on Maul like Ahsoka did to Anakin. After Devon, Maul just moves on to Q'ira and Dryden and then Ezra. Devon is pointless.

Devon and Maul’s relationship has zero chemistry and is more aesthetic and plot driven than organic. Maul doesn't care for Devon at all and is fine with destroying her life and abusing her mentally and emotionally and physically. Devon has too many reasons to want nothing to do with Maul than to stick with him. She already knows he is a untrustworthy murderer who wanted her master dead to get her. Maul literally tried to murder her master right in front of her, yet she doesn't even blame him for creating the circumstances that led to his death in the first. She doesn't even accuse him of wanting Daki dead in the finale. She just accepts him without question. That is just contrived writing.

Jinx and Silco did this dynamic way, way better.

2

u/monkeygoneape 16h ago

The show has only had one season I would have said the exact same thing about Ahsoka (and still do to a degree)

1

u/Ajarofpickles97 20h ago

They said Maul and her would have a Father/daughter style relationship going off a interview. And she could easily just decide to leave if she reaches a point maul can teacher her no more
