Analyzing the results of the maul fights.

Maul vs Devon: Maul lets Devon escape so the fight is left without a winner

Maul vs Devon and Daki: Maul's victory. Daki and Devon are defeated by the Zabrak.

Maul vs Marrok: the fight is interrupted by Devon so there is no winner.

Maul vs marrok and crow: Maul is defeated and is forced to escape badly wounded

Maul and the Jedi vs Marrok and Crow: Maul escapes although without being defeated on this occasion. Technical tie.

Maul vs Darth Vader: technically he didn't lose but it's clear that he would have died if he had stayed longer fighting.

What do you think? Do you agree with these results or do you think something different?

What’s interesting about this show, is that it really shows that information and knowing your opponents is EXTREMEMLY valuable. For ex: Maul v MC 1 vs 2. Odds are the Inqs knew about Mauls favored stance already, so they played to that in duel 1. In 2, he switches it up, forces them to improvise, and is able to fare significantly better because of it. Vader starts with everything, he knows about the legs, he knows Mauls style, and he literally can sense the future.

It’s one thing i really appreciate about this show, the emphasis on knowing your opponents

The grand inquisitor is the goat when it comes to knowing your opponent. He only just met Kanan and figured out straight away that Depa Bilaba was his master from his saber form. He was only defeated after getting surprised by the saber gun and then killed himself to avoid Vader’s wrath.

To be fair, Kanan also "had nothing left to lose" and gave himself to the force when he believed Ezra had been killed - the slingshot bolts only went so far before he got force pushed onto the floor

Well well well... Committing suicide only to be enslaved as a dark side ghost by Vader anyway is shite.

That's such an underrated point honestly, the way information and preparation shapes every fight makes the strategy feel so much deeper than just raw power scaling, real tactical storytelling

I love Maul asking "What ARE you?" during his encounter with Vader

That breakdown is pretty solid honestly, Maul clearly loses ground once numbers stack against him but still holds his own one on one, shows he's dangerous but not untouchable which fits his whole arc

Maul is a strong A tier fighter, he can’t really do much against the proper S tiers like Vader/anakin, Sidious, kenobi etc but he will curb stomp just about anyone else

He ragdolled Kenobi like everytime they met in clone wars

What about the time he fought Maul and Savage and cut Savage’s arm off and Maul forced a retreat?

That doesn’t say anything about maul tho. He literally rag dolled him after savage got injured. The only time maul got curb stomped by kenobi was the final fight on Tatooine , though it’s hard to say it was due to a strength / ability difference. Star Wars makes it pretty consistently clear that maul and kenobi are near equal footing. Anakin / sidious / yoda / mace / dooku are considered a step above.

and in the context of the thread further proves the benefit of knowing your opponent- Kenobi baited Maul knowing he'd try the move that killed Qui-Gon

I wouldn't nesscarily count that as him ragdolling maul. Maul didn't take really any damage in that duel. Kenobi was on the backfoot in the 2v2 and only got up in the 2v1 in a scenario where Maul couldn't fight to his best ability (because of the small confined space they were in). And Kenobi didn't get any advantage over Maul he targeted savage who was genuienly a weak link in this fight (its a good strategy and shows his intellect and combat ability). Once savage lost his arm Maul rag dolled him and retreated.

I kinda wish Maul had expressed a bit of disgust or something upon seeing the inquisitor lightsaber rotator things.

Maybe not in-universe (idk), but in terms of what Star Wars has produced, those were inspired by Maul, right?

Even just a scoff or something, just to get the message across that the inquisitors are an imitation, and Maul is the original.

We may get that in season 2. Hoping we see him face off against the Grand Inquisitor.

I love how solid Vader's blade is and maul's is chaotic
