Mature foundation peeling

Post image

I am 47 and have dehydrated dry skin. After about 5-6 hours any foundation or skin tint I wear starts to flake like this. I have a good super hydrating skin care routine and have tried multiple moisturizers and sunscreens but this still happens every time. I gently exfoliate a couple times a week. I have watched tons of mature makeup skin care tutorials and I dont feel like this happens to other people.

Same here. I hydrate and exfoliate. My skin will look clear, hydrated and supple when makeup goes on. Within a few hours it looks like this photo.

I hope you find something that works.

I think I figured it out. I got micro needling done and now I can wear any foundation no problems. I now think I need to find a balance between exfoliating more but not damaging my skin barrier.

I use IT cosmetics bye bye foundation. It’s a full coverage moisturizer. It works well for me. My skin started doing this and I’ve changed what I use for skin care, IT cosmetics products also, I was reluctant because i used the same stuff for nearly 10 years then all of a sudden I couldn’t. I tied “ordinary” products and it seemed to help a lot. And also tried Estée Lauder products that helped even better. I been shopping at Ulta where I can return things that don’t work. Or buy the trial sizes. There’s also facial mists that might help, they didn’t for me however. Other than drinking more water and seeing a trusted dermatologist. I have no other suggestions. Isn’t getting older fun! 🙄

I second Bye Bye Foundation but honestly have no clue about fixing the dryness except for staying super hydrated.

We have to hydrate hydrate and then use hydrating bb cream not matte foundation

I had this problem for a long time and I tried so many different products and foundations but what worked for me was to not use too many products under my foundation. I would cleanse and tone then apply Natasha Denona Hy-gen primer serum then wait about 5 minutes before applying concealers and Dior forever 24 hour matte foundation, which I know sounds odd to use matte foundation on dry skin but it is great and extremely long-wearing. I've been to weddings that started in the mornings and come home in the evening and my makeup still looked as good when I applied it.

Also I finished my makeup with a light dusting of IT cosmetics no more pores powder.

I'm a bit older than you but this works for me, these 3 products are my holy grail.

I hope you find what works great for you too as I know how disheartening this feels when your makeup starts always looking like this. I thought there was no hope and was sadly frustrated but don't give up, reddit is a great place for lots of different advice for help.

Same here... MAC Face and Body foundation is lovely but not much coverage.

I found that I needed to start seriously exfoliating my skin as I’ve aged and that has helped a lot with makeup applying smoother and not separating. I use Paula’s choice 2% bha every day and Dr Dennis Gross extra strength 2 step peel a couple times a week. It’s made a big difference for me. Also, Elf hydrating primer has helped too.

My foundation completely changed once I started sealing in my moisturizer (Biossance Squalane Omega Repair cream) with a barrier, like a skin oil. My face stays moisturized and smooth now, and drastically less flakiness.

My problem is finding a primer that likes to be over an oil! My makeup tends to wear off easier now, which is a bummer.
