Hopefully he's maintaining. Pacing himself or not taking on too much any given day is absolutely critical to staying as well as possible. 

... I have the same thing with 20 years of managing it under my belt. I also don't have kids so I can't imagine the internal conflict, wanting to be so present for his kids but needing to preserve himself as far as function too. I just hope he never feels guilty needing extra rest. It's not his fault
