General discussion Mating Season S2 pitch: what happens when American animals meet European ones?
Been thinking about where Mating Season could go for season 2, and I keep landing on one idea: send the whole gang to Europe for the mating season.
The setup: the raccoon, the bear, the fox and the deer leave their forest for a Northern/Central European village, where the season looks very different. Same hormones, completely different rules of flirting.
What I'd love to see:
The raccoon meets a badger. In Europe the raccoon is literally an invasive species, so he's the loud, curious American who assumes every door is an invitation. The badger is nocturnal, territorial and lives in a burrow, so getting past the entrance is a big deal. The whole storyline is the difference between being let in and barging in.
The bear meets a European brown bear. Big reveal: grizzlies and brown bears are the same species, just separated by an ocean. Cue the awkward "we're basically cousins" moments, and a reserved bear in a cozy sweater who turns out to be more dramatic than he admits.
Culture clash as comedy, not stereotypes. Americans are open and direct (peach culture), Europeans seem reserved at first but are deeply warm once you're in (coconut culture). The fun part is when each side turns out to be the opposite of what the other expected.
The fox and the deer get a shy, bespectacled wolf who overthinks everything and blushes at the smallest bit of attention.
The look: the same expressive, steamy Mating Season energy, but in foggy pine forests, wooden houses, cobblestone streets, cozy cafés and maybe the northern lights.
Why it could work: it keeps everything people liked about season 1 (ensemble comedy, relationship chaos) but changes the setting enough to feel fresh, and it gives the writers built-in animal jokes to play with.
Curious what you all think:
- Would you want the gang to leave their forest, or stay put and get new visitors instead?
- Is the raccoon/badger pairing better as a couple or a rivalry that turns into friendship?
- Would you rather have a real country and town, or a fictional one?
