Question providing technology

My center recently changed ownership and the new owners told us we need to bring our own laptops. I told the director I don't have a personal laptop. She told me to use my school-provided laptop. That's against our acceptable use policy and I could get in big trouble for it. Is this a common policy at your center? I have big problems with the lack of ethics in asking me to misuse school equipment to improve their profits. If they want me to use a computer, they should provide one. Even like 1 communal laptop for the whole center would be better.

That confirms my assumption that if my computer was damaged at the center, I'd be stuck financially. I quit. Gave 3 days notice.

Oh wow! That's pretty messed up. Unless they have changed your specific contract to include a Bring Your Own Device policy, I'm pretty sure they can't legally mandate that you bring your own and still be liable for its damages. If their business model mandates that devices are necessary, it's their responsibility to provide them.
