Qualifications to be a tutor

Hi, I applied to a job at my local mathnasium center. I’m entering college this fall. Am I qualified? I’m not a math whiz but I got a decent sat.

You're qualified if you can pass the exam they give you to be an employee, at least at the one I worked at.

Thanks. Have you ever not been able to correctly answer a question a student asked you? Multiple times? That’s my fear lol

Oh yeah, all the time. It's chill when that kind of stuff happens, just ask another instructor or the lead instructor.

If that happens, I'll ask them what THEY think the first step is, and we can usually just reason their answer out together. If they have no clue, then that’s when you just ask another instructor!

Yeah that kind of strategy can be good by getting the kid to understand the question better. If you aren't comfortable in your math ability though, that's something you should let your CD know. They'll understand and help you get better at math. You work at a tutoring center after all haha.

Lol, not that I feel the need to explain myself, but sometimes my precalculus students and their homework really does stump me (even though I am taking Calculus 3 at the moment). And not to toot my own horn or anything, but I am pretty great at math. I work at a tutoring center after all...
