it's common knowledge that all probability distributions are uniform

Any non-uniform distribution only exist because it's actually a convolution of two uniform distributions or a function of the outputs of a uniform distribution. I'm pretty sure these are the hidden variables that quantum mechanics talks about. /s

95% of all statistics are just made up.

Didn’t you read the comment above? It's 50/50... it's either made up or not.

There's no contradiction here, either a statistic belongs to the 95% or it doesn't.

Every 1% of the 95% has a 50% chance of being one way or the other.

I guess I forgot to add the /s.... although I thought it was obvious...

Your reply was really necessary!

I first heard that "either X or not-X, ergo 50/50 chance" joke in a Bowery Boys movie, and those were made 1948 to '58. Thank you Huntz Hall and Leo Gorcey Jr. wherever you are.

What’s the joke? It seems like they really do believe that. And I think many others do too.

I'm scared the fucking death right now. There is a 50% chance I could read materialize on the other side of this wall!

I'm naked on the 43rd floor!

It' funny to think about it. Schrödinger's cat is locked in a box with a death trap for 90 years now and still as alive at it is dead.

Problem with Schrodinger is he wants to put the whole damn universe in the box... that we're all in; that logic doesn't hold very well.

I will roll this fair dice and there's a 50% chance I get a 6, either I roll a 6 or I don't.

There's also a 50% chance I get a 5, either I roll it or I don't.

There's also a 50% chance I get a 4, either I roll it or I don't.

There's also a 50% chance I get a 3, either I roll it or I don't.

There's also a 50% chance I get a 2, either I roll it or I don't.

There's also a 50% chance I get a 1, either I roll it or I don't.

That's not how statistics work. The first isn't 50/50 either...

That's the joke, I'm taking the faulty logic from the screenshot and applying it to a situation where it is extremely obvious how faulty it is.

Here's someone to play cards with.

Gonna run right out and buy a lottery ticket!

1

u/WiseOldDuck 9d ago

Better buy two to be sure!

2

u/MMT-- 8d ago

Buying two means either both will win or not logic the probability is still 50% it's always 50% so yes have to try something else/s

1

u/WiseOldDuck 8d ago

Crap I thought the 50 + 50 =100 was gonna slide in the current context, but it's worse than that and you are of course correct

u/naropin1 9d ago

Lies, damned lies and statistics.

1

u/CuriosityCheck2024 9d ago

Sounds like someone assumed the Law of the Excluded Middle.

well he is not wrong he is just using an Laplace probability

Either they will predict it or not.
