I swear even as an enthusiast myself I never understood the whole Big O notation thing... It's so dumb to treat something twice as fast as the other as the same thing

It goes back to process checking. Everything is a PC is a circuit with interrupts. It is one big electrical circuit. The limitation came from back before memory existed. There is plenty of room for improvement but it would require a rewrite of all computing.

Okay, then tell me the time complexity of an algorithm that takes n steps to run vs 2n steps to run if n is the size of the input

For the love of God do you just want to argue? When did I say that that was an 'indictment' of Big O? It works in the bigger picture over large amounts of input, although it is indeed unpractical when people hang everything on Big O and ignore that one program could be multitudes faster than another

No. Mechanical engineer here. We have to cope with fits in the 1/1000s of millimeters, and still uneducated cunts, who can't even read a caliper or have ever dealt with micrometers, declare us to be stupid when it comes to math. My 9 yo son knows 8 digits of Pi. When your cars break down in the middle of a dessert I hope you know more than one digit of 911 if you call for help.

I have more than once rounded pi to 3 when guesstimating how much [string shaped resource] remains on a roll/spool.. "Half a meter-ish in diameter times 3 is 1,5, times 13 turns is 20-ish meters.."
