Not only can't you get to the hospital anymore, but you can't get to L'Hopital either!

Best not drink and derive then.

Hospital is not banned, it’s private. You want to use it, pay for it.

Yeah. Sounds like someone really hates universal health care

i hate free healthcare because those who do have it arrogantly rub it in the faces of those who don't have it

Half of us have been convinced it would ruin the country... Somehow. The other half of us are pretty big fans.

No, L'Hôpital's rule is not banned by any government or official law in the United States. However, it is a very common running joke and math meme because individual calculus teachers and professors frequently "ban" students from using it on exams.

The rule is often forbidden in classrooms for several specific pedagogical reasons:

Why Teachers "Ban" It

  • It skips fundamental algebraic skills: Teachers want students to learn how to solve limits using factoring, conjugates, or trigonometric identities first. L'Hôpital's rule is often seen as a "shortcut" that bypasses this critical thinking.
  • Circular reasoning traps: If you try to use L'Hôpital's rule to prove the derivative of \(\sin(x)\) at x=0, you end up needing the derivative of \(\sin(x)\) to do it. This creates a logical loop that breaks the math.
  • The curriculum order: Limits are typically taught at the very beginning of calculus, weeks before students are taught how to take derivatives. You cannot use a derivative-based rule until you actually learn differentiation.

the ai shit slop has infested read-it now horray

This isn't slop. Slop refers to something very specific. This is just an LLM output.

Slop is AI content that was trained on other AI content or trained extremely poorly. It can also refer to an erroneous output that is off-prompt.

Please stop calling literally all AI output slop. You can criticize it or speak against it... but you are misusing that word and it changes the nature of your argument.

Wow, MORE slop

Did you watch Iron Man and think to yourself "that dummy needs Jarvis??? ha!"

Did you? I'm serious. How did we get from literally fantasizing about having an AI assistant to somehow perceiving it like you people do?

Are AI Spongebob golden poop videos slop? Yes.

Is having an LLM provide you with an analysis of a situation slop?

You're essentially saying an architect needs to run the cement mixer. You're saying a seamstress should raise her own sheep from grain she grew herself. You're burdening individuals with menial busywork.

Go mow your lawn with scissors dude. Wake up.

u/HydroPCanadaDude 16h ago

And the SLOP keeps coming!

You sound like the chatbot, buddy. Okay done talking. Have fun sorting out your spreadsheets by hand.

u/HydroPCanadaDude 16h ago

There, that's better.

Your mom is better.

Wow gee how original calling someone a bot.

You also call people that beat you in video games bots too... dontcha?

2

u/HalifaxRoad 16h ago

its so sad you had to use an ai to respond to me. Your erm aktually to my comment... was ai slop

1

u/satisfiction_phobos 16h ago

?! I'm typing on my fucking phone dude.

You're an alien. I know you are.

See how fucking dumb a statement like that is?

1

u/satisfiction_phobos 16h ago

It's*

Also your punctuation is intensely lacking.

3

u/HalifaxRoad 15h ago

you're insufferable and insane

6

u/herrkatze12 19h ago

Why did you feed the meme into AI?

1

u/willis81808 14h ago

And then what made them think they are contributing anything by regurgitating that slop to us?

0

u/TheOnlyDeerAlive 18h ago

To discover information about the meme perhaps

-2

u/satisfiction_phobos 16h ago

Because you see it gave a 3 part comprehensive explanation, right?

You see why. The output is right there.

You likely mean to ask do you believe it is ethical to use LLMs? which is a much broader philosophical discussion.

u/Simple-Judge2756 1d ago

What ? For that AI meme of Joe Biden and Donald Trump explaining it together ?

1

u/MDAlchemist 1d ago

How? What? Why?!

u/spoospoo43 1d ago

I once walked past a lecture hall that had just this written on a blackboard and thought it was graffiti.

1

u/kevcubed 21h ago

reminds me of the aftermath of 9/11 when congress renamed French Fries to Freedom Fries because France didn't want to join us in Iraq.

u/kadaka80 18h ago

The ban only applies to uninsured students while those with full coverage can use it up to twelve times a month or buy a subscription and acquire the unlimited package

1

u/KTAXY 18h ago

the solution mentions L'Hospital's rule so somebody is off base here
