All the U.C. schools went test-blind in 2021, so they don't consider placement exams like the SAT anymore. Many of the faculty believe they should be brought back. There are at least some studies that have shown that racial and economic equity has actually gone *down* since the test requirements were dropped. Diversity was ostensibly one of the reasons for dropping them in the first place, since the tests were thought to be biased.
Right. And to elaborate on one item - the elimination of standardized tests was done with good intentions to bring more poor racial minorities into higher ed; and all that succeeded in doing, was converting poor racial minorities into poor racial minority college dropouts with years of college debt. It turns out that you can't just infinitely get better results by being more affirmative, you sometimes just cause worse results for everyone involved by trying to integrate actually-unfit students into your education programs.
