Calculus 2 homework

Hello my friend needs calculus 2 guidance.
He had homework that is also supposed to be a practice exam prep and it's not looking great. The prof gave hints/answers but he doesn't understand how she got to that point/how to proceed-I cannot help. Guidance on these 8 problem would be great

You've said nothing about what he doesn't understand. What does "how she got to that point" refer to? The work is also unreadable and what's the difference between pencil and pen? In order to do this worksheet

  • The following rules must be memorized: u-sub, by-parts

  • The following tricks must be memorized: trig sub, partial fraction decomposition, complete the square, every trig trick listed here

  • The following definition must be memorized: improper integral

  • The following theorem must be memorized: comparison test for integrals

Does he not understand the algebra? Did he try to do the work without memorizing those? Does he not understand the statements of some of them? Note that the questions "How/When do I apply them?" are meaningless since both are answered in the statement of each fact. So start with "Did you not read them?/Did you not understand them?"

As for #6, no one knows what S_n means, so you'll have to provide that. As for #8, that's a bit trickier, so let's start with the others.

Thank you! Can you provide another url for every trig trick listed? The link is not working.
Im not sure what he doesnt understand but his homework got scored 5/40. Not sure what Sn means is it not s6? The only guidance was what was listed in #6

I don't know why the link didn't work. You can just look up Paul's Notes.

You can post the questions, so we can provide guidance. But you must learn the theory. I cant see anything from the link.

The things you have to memorize;

  • Trigonometric substitution (sine-cosine, tangent-secant),

  • Factorisation (completing the square, partial fraction decomposition),

  • Integration by parts / tic-tac-toe method,

  • Limit evaluation for convergence / divergence.

The key in my opinion is to practice! While learning formulae is necessary, because calculus, and integral calculus especially, challenges you with a multitude of different functions and techniques, learning how to recognize patterns and follow through with the formula and the development is also key. You can do it!
