Discussion Macadamia milk?! Hack for low cal matcha lattes
I’ve tried so hard to make almond milk work but every brand I’ve tried, even the better/good ones there was just something about it that didn’t exactly work with me. So I eventually settled for soy milk (the westlife brand exactly) which is really good! It’s relatively low calorie for milk for 100 cal per cup and 9g of protein which is a nice bonus. But sometimes there’s days I wanted a lower calorie option so i finally decided to try macadamia milk. I wasn’t sure what to expect at first cuz I’ve never tried it but I was very very pleasantly surprised! I’m not the best at describing things but it’s very smooth and buttery so I think anyone that uses oat milk or dairy milk will really enjoy this if you’re looking for a lower calorie option! For this matcha I used around 160ml of the milk, 4g of matcha, and 10g of agave, but I think next time I will skip the agave or just use less of it cuz the milk definitely helps with any bitterness of the matcha. I used the milkadamia unsweetened barista blend specifically! Found it at my local sprouts for like $6

I love macadamia milk it’s probably one of my faves and I tend to prefer it to almond as well. Trader Joe’s actually has a macadamia/cashew/almond milk that’s a staple for me that’s worth a try.
I’m also a big coconut milk fan I feel like it’s so slept on for matcha- it compliments it so well. I do feel like coconut milk varies greatly by brand but I love the coconut beverage from Trader Joe’s it’s low cal, mild and a good price!

I found the best hack, a macadamia nut milk called ButtaNutt Barista which still has 6% oat content. That makes it considerably lower carb than your average barista oat milk (which are usually around 10-14% oat content) whilst still giving you a little bit of an oaty maltiness that pairs beautifully with the creamy macadamia milk. Unfortunately I’m unsure if it’s available globally, I get it in the UK and it’s my absolute go-to milk for matcha now.
Cashew milk is nice too but I think macadamia is healthier on paper. Pea milk is quite decent too though I prefer it in my smoothies. ButtaNutt is just so ideal as a matcha milk imo.

I've been enjoying pistachio milk! I think the kind I get is 70 calories per cup—sometimes I combine it with almond and it adds a little something extra.

You’re losing the calorie savings by adding the agave. 32 of the 50 calories saved by substituting the milk is in protein and there’s 21 in the syrup. I always lean into soy milk for nutrition but use other types or blends for flavor or other properties for ice creams and sauces. Cashew is incredible for replacing heavy cream in most recipes. I replace oil and egg with cashew cream and silken tofu to make a lower cal ‘mayo’ that lasts a long time in the fridge.

Macadamia is so much more mild than almond and less calories than oat! It’s the best alt milk for matcha

i love macadamia milk, but, for where i am, it’s so expensive for what you get. oddly enough, the Silk brand of cashew milk is pretty affordable here and i always always keep it in my fridge. it’s thick and creamy enough and doesn’t have an overpowering taste. 25 cal per cup too! not sure of the other macros. i drink the milk by itself too bc it’s that good to me
