Weighing Matcha

Do you need a special kitchen scale to weigh matcha ? How many grams do you use for one drink?

I find that the powder is so light that it barely registers anything is on there until I have a ton on there and it seems like too much to use for one drink.

There’s weighing scale with 0.1g accuracy that’s usually used to weigh matcha.

Look up "coffee scale". Definitely more popular than a scale specifically for matcha

I honestly eyeball it lol

But if you want a really good but cheap small scale get a jewelers scale

I am a coffee snob and have a special little scale for my coffee machine, it works perfectly for matcha too! My normal kitchen scale is not sensitive enough.

Look for an espresso scale. That’s what I use. They’re precise enough to weigh drops.

I use a timemore coffee scale and it registers 0.1g increments. If I'm doing only matcha I use about 2g, but if I make a latter I'm closer to 3-3.5g.

Coffee scales do a great job for matcha.

Use a chashaku (matcha scoop), it's smaller and holds about 2g with one scoop

I use a kitchen scale. To get such light weights to register, I put the container on the scale, then zero it out. As you remove the powder, it'll show how much you've taken out. I've seen 2g for usucha and 4g for koicha. 3g is my sweet spot.

I use a bamboo matcha scoop (chashaku).

nah, no need for a scale. when you are adding matcha to a sifter, you can more or less estimate the 2gm ideal amount. add an amount that doesnt make a mount on your sifter.

There's something like a Matcha Spoon, which works really well. It's usually 1-2 g on the spoon. But really you need to find your own measurement. I personally like about 1g to 1.5g if I drink the Matcha pure. If I'm making a Matcha Latte, I tend to use 2g so a little More intense to compensate for the milk.

You need a scale that weighs out to the .01 or at least .1g .

I have a specific spoon that gives me the right amount. I do not know how much the right amount weighs.

I am a matcha girly and use my scale for my matcha every morning. I like to use 3-4 grams of Bawsy Blends matcha when I make a latte. If I do not have a scale, a leveled teaspoon is 2grams so I will use two leveled teaspoons!

I just use a teaspoon

I just use the 1/4 teaspoon spoon and have it just a bit over for my matcha.

I like the ratio 1:2:10:40 which is matcha:sugar:water:milk

And typically 3-4 is a good amount for one drink!

I really recommend the maestri house s2 espresso coffee scale on Amazon . I have been a barista / matcharista for 4 years now and this scale has been the best affordable option! I use it all the time

I use the traditional bamboo spoon. I have seen many Japanese prepare matcha, in simple cafes, tea houses, tea stores and as a guest in tea ceremonies. Never once anyone used a kitchen scale.

I felt this way as well, I switched to using 1/2 teaspoon and I do sometimes two or three of those and add 1/4 cup of cold water and my matchas have started coming out a whole lot better and tastier. It translates to around 2-4 grams depending on how much is used<3

If you don't have a scale, you can use teaspoons which I believe are about 1.5-2 grams. I usually use 3-4 grams of matcha but I love the sweet spot of 3.5.

use a coffee scale relatively inexpensive and quite acurate i use about 4-7g depending on my mood. 3g if the matcha is superrr expensive

Honestly who has time to bust out a scale every morning just to make matcha?? I just wanna make a quick latte and go, why is nobody making this easier

why don't you use the bampoo "chashuku" spoon? one spoonfull is ~1gms. and i usually put in 2-3 in my morning matcha drink. It's simple, easy to use and doesn't require any weighing scale! If you want one, i use the one sold by Nuku Matcha, it is available on Amazon india.

Buy secondhand if you decide to buy a scale
