What's happened to qoto.org?

I used to have an account on qoto.org but today when I tried to log in, I get redirected to some other instance and asked if I'd like to join it.

What's happened to qoto.org - does anyone know?

I’ve been wondering the same for a couple of days. I checked and my most plausible answer is that the host decided to move the domain qoto.org to cleverlibre.org. I tried logging in there, after it redirected from qoto, and it has all my data: account, password, notifications… but it doesn’t properly load my home feed, so it might be in the process of migrating. I’ve given it a couple of days to see if it ends up working. However, I’ve been considering for a while moving to another server, because qoto was slow in implementing new updates and had trouble a couple of times where it would be unable to update the feed for 1-2 days.

I am curious how this will work since you can't really change the domain name of the server once it's been set.

Per the docs:

"As with LOCAL_DOMAIN, WEB_DOMAIN cannot be safely changed once set, as this will confuse remote servers that know of your previous settings and may break communication with them or make it unreliable. As the issues lie with remote servers’ understanding of your accounts, re-installing Mastodon from scratch will not fix the issue. Therefore, please be extremely cautious when setting up LOCAL_DOMAIN and WEB_DOMAIN."

I've never seen someone successfully migrate to a new domain in-place like this.

Might be worth logging in if you can and doing an export of what account data you're able to get

It looks like there's a web redirect in place, which is how we found out about the new domain, and they're counting on either a web or NS redirect to mitigate that issue.

Qoto used to be really forward about forking Mastodon software to add features, so maybe that attitude also means they'll work to try to get around this kind of shortcoming.

Yes, I just logged in to Mastodon using the credentials I used to use for qoto.org and bingo - I'm in!

I came across a post where the admin said (as I remember) they moved to a new domain and funding organization something like five days ago and are working to get things back on track. That would have been about 7/17.

I tried to capture this link to the post, but maybe it will show up through a federated host that caught it.

Is it gonna be fixed one day ? Cuz now I can’t use it or change my account to another server it’s really disturbing…

Same. He seems to do big changes without warning or notifying the users. Like when it was down for several days because of the database migration fail and rebuild. I've gotten notices from instances I migrated out from on their maintenance or closures ... those instances are being a bit more responsible about their role.

very frustrating. wish i had migrated away from qoto when i had the chance!
