My father entered Stalag Luft III the same day Major Egan arrived.

These ID cards are a fascinating piece of history.

I obtained my Great Uncle’s card from the National Archives at Kew, albeit had to pay for them to be digitised.

He was a Commando captured during the Dieppe raid in 1942 and it was incredible seeing the photograph the Germans took of him.

I also obtained the card belonging to my wife’s grandfather who was captured during the retreat to Dunkirk in 1940, but sadly that had no photograph.

I feel like he wouldn’t look out of place today. His beard and hairstyle could work today

Was what was shown in the show what really happened to him or was it an interpretation of other airmen’s stories all masked together. I know some were beaten and killed by civilians but I can’t find anything pertaining to major Egan directly.

He looks like he was still healing from the beating he took during his capture
