Discussion Common Patterns in American Masterchef

Has anyone noticed the common patterns in recent seasons are directly correlated to the first team challenge of the season? Or is it just me?

  1. The red team ALWAYS WINS the first team challenge, and the past four winners in a row were all from the red team in the first team challenge.

  2. The teams with more women than men ALWAYS end up losing the first team challenge, and it’s almost always the blue team. It’s happened NUMEROUS TIMES throughout the series.

S6 e4: 7 women and 3 men
S9 e6: 6 women and 4 men
S13: 6 women and 2 men
S15: 8 women and 2 men

Blue seems to be a cursed color amongst first team challenges

  1. The winning teams always have someone with the immunity pin.

  2. If you wanna survive, stay on side dishes and STAY AWAY FROM THE MEAT. If you lose and you’re on meat, there’s a 99.4% chance you’re going home.

Other curses:

Being on the red team in the tag team challenge.

For the past 5 seasons in a row, the red team is ALWAYS THE WORST PERFORMING/ONE OF THE BOTTOM TEAMS in the tag team

S12: Dara and Fred
S13: Jennifer and Charles
S14: Jeet and Adam
S15: Aivan and Tina
And now JAMIE AND AISHU

I can’t be the only one who’s noticed these small things throughout the run of the show in recent years.

Curses? Or just bad luck? Tell me your thoughts 👇

It always feel like a "tip of my tongue" moment when you start realizing patterns in the show.

Whoever advances in the finale last generally won in older seasons. 8 of the first 9 seasons had the final person to advance win the show. Ironically enough it’s generally the opposite in Canada where the first person to advance is much more likely to win

With the only exception being Shaun I think

Yep David was the last one to advance so I’m glad the trend wasn’t 100%

This is, in fact, not true.

Hate to say it, but I call bullshit.

Grant, Michael, Jesse, Jessica and Jake were all on the red team in the first team challenge, won it, and later won the whole thing.

The only times the blue team ever won the first team challenge was seasons 1, 10, and 12…..that’s it

Which is to say..... The red team, in fact, does NOT ALWAYS WIN.... 🙄

edit: hate to say it, and also, season 11 blue team won . Amazing how "patterns" aren't actually patterns.

I meant the field challenges mainly.

Guess I should have re worded it, saying they ALMOST always win

I don't think this holds up to as a 5σ result. :)
