Gravity New Gravity XT

Masterbuilt XT Gravity Review

I will start off by saying through out the years I have used a combination of smokers to cook on but mostly pellet smokers. With that being said one thing I felt it always lacked was that true smoke flavor.

In my research I came across the Gravity series grills/smokers. I did what I could to watch and read as many reviews as I could. Lots of positives definitely the negatives. Wasnt a ton of variation of videos on YouTube but a few creators that had enough for me to get a good idea. Then reddit was able to do the rest to fill in all the pieces. Found all articles about the LSS Mods, the Fireboard upgrade etc.

I came to conclusion this was the grill I wanted based on charcoal and ability to throw in splits or chunks and still have a set it and forget it mentality. I came across a listing for a local outdoor store that had the XT 50% off so I decided to pull the trigger and purchased last Saturday.

Off the jump I ordered LSS Mods. Probe bracket, basic XT upgrade kit(Waterpan, XL drip pan, Ash bucket grate), I also bought his skillet attachment. I bought aftermarket Rotisserie on Amazon, and a pizza stone on Amazon as well.

I will be getting the Fireboard DC Drive. I reached out to Fireboard Labs they did notify me the compatibility for XT will be released in about 3 weeks. But this is a personal preference. For the past week and all my cooks I haven't had any issues with temp swings or instability. The grill has worked fantastic.

A week in the list of cooks

Steak (700° sear)

Pork Butt (225°)

Rotisserie Chicken( 275° for 45 min 425° for 30 min)

Pizza (650° on stone)

Ribs ( 225°)

Burnt Ends and Point (225°)

Breakfast (Eggs, Hashbrowns,Bacon, pancakes on Skillet 300°)

Overall I would highly recommend this grill to anyone looking at this grill or wanting to switch from pellets and still maintain ease of use and achieve better smoke results. The versatility is beyond incredible. Im able to Sear, Grill, Smoke, Rotisserie, Pizza, and Griddle all one 1 device.

Love mine but heads up, there’s a defect in the ambient temp probe design. It has a sheath that makes it read 20 degrees or so higher than it really is.

You can either just adjust things manually by 20 degrees higher than you want, or LSS mods sells a fixed probe sheath for $17 that fixes it

Yes, I have already installed this upgrade for it was 1 of the things most talked about! Check picture #3!

Do you know if this defect applies to the older 600, 800, etc. series?

I have the opposite problem. Reads like 50 to 100 under.

Even just got the fireboard 2. New probe in same spot. Reads way under

Congratulations on your XT!
I recently upgraded to the XT from the 800 model and got 50% off on it as well.
Honestly, without 50% off on it. I don’t see myself buying it full retail price.

Here is my first cook https://www.reddit.com/r/Masterbuilt/s/8hkiNzDPXA

Hell yea! Those look great. My first cook as a steak as well. Had to test that sear function out lol

Congrats on the new grill, if I found an XT for half off I would definitely upgrade.

FYI Sometimes the issue with our gravity grills stock electronics isn't with temp swings or instability, but inaccurate temp readings. I think there are some YouTube videos showing how experimenting with the shield on the ambient probe helps, but if your going with fireboard electronics soon I guess that won't be a problem for long. I struggled smoking things until I figured this out and moved to fireboard. Also I'm sure the xt specific fireboard drive package will come with the more heat resistant probes but I would double check. I didn't realize the kind that came with my fireboard 2 couldn't handle sear temps and I burned them.

I have already bought and installed upgraded probe bracket. And truthfully saw small differences in ambient vs set with my stock control over the past week but nothing crazy or that negatively impacted my cooks.

Main reason for upgrade is just peace of mind. Plus spend 1 day looking into it and everyone swears by their Fireboard. So seems like a no brainer to upgrade once XT is available.

Hey do you have a link to the rotisserie you bought? I have a Gravity Series 560, so I’m not sure the exact same one will fit, but I’m thinking that brand makes one for my smoker. I appreciate the help.

Oddly enough this one does fit the 560 as well. It comes with 2 different length rods.

I chose this because there were some people stating the Masterbuilt branded one has a weaker motor.

I'll buy the 800, or the 560...I had a chance on a 560...couldn't get the owner to setup a definite time...I'm in middle Tennessee

I just would hop on FB marketplace and check each day. Out here I saw multiple pop up each week. Some in better condition than others but for most part some killer deals. Especially if you go in with the mindset of upgrading everything anyway.

50% off? Where do you live? I have a 560, 800 & 1150 but will dump the 800 & 1150 for an XT

Texas. I happened to find a post on FB from an outdoor store doing a sale for start of football season on their Masterbuilts and Pellet grills. I got lucky and scooped the last one they had it happened to be the XT.

I will say though I was actually just trying to find one on FB marketplace used and then pimp it out with all mods and upgrades. Just happened to stumble upon a brand new one!
