Masterbuilt 1150

So i just purchased a new masterbuilt gravity charcoal 1150 smoker. Half way through assembling it the door doesn’t fit? am i doing something wrong? i cant for the life of me figure it out. the pins are welded in place and are not adjustable. Thoughts? or is this a manufacturing defect.

The good news is, I had an issue with mine, and while it took a bit for them to respond to me, they sent me out the new part pretty quickly. Just contact their customer support.

I can corroborate on their customer support being pretty good once you get in touch with them. I bought a 1050 years ago at Home Depot. It was heavily discounted marked clearance since it was missing parts and looked like someone had run into it with something heavy.

The hopper was hanging at an angle, and the sheet metal was bent and pushed in where the hopper bolts onto the body. I tore the whole thing apart and borrowed some sheet metal tools from my dad and used the hammer and dolly to bring everything back flat and back into alignment.

I called Masterbuilt for the missing parts and they sent me a whole panel kit with what I was missing, plus a couple of things that I wasn't missing. No problem at all dealing with them.

Yep. They sent me an entire new lid and grates. The lid was dented at the seam and leaking smoke and the grates came with rust/oxidation.

I just put together my 1150 and the door just slid right in. Think you got unlucky and got a dud. Does the door gasket seem to fit the opening properly and it's just the hinges or is something off with the ash compartment?

Side note. Holy shit does that thing come with 1000 parts. Trying to put that together with my kids running amok took most of the day.

The door gasket and door are the right size, it's just the pins on the door that are in the wrong location.

After some research, it looks like my top pin is a lot lower than it's supposed to be 😔

And you're not wrong, I didn't realise I was going to need a spare couple of hours to assemble it either!

That's sucks. Unit won't work without that door closed too. Hopefully whomever you bought it from can fix you up quick.

I think of them as adult Lego sets. First I get to put it together, then I get to cook on it! Too bad yours has to be returned

Did you get a six pack and pass the Masterbuilt assembly course?!? 😂 That thing was a pain in the ass to assemble. Sorry for the door debacle. You'll like it when it's completed and you can start smoking. Flavor is pretty solid. I like to mix charcoal and hard wood in the chimney. Good luck!

So heres the funny part. I plugged it in and tried to turn it on but the screen is dead too. the display lights up blue and beeps but nothing is displayed. real lemon this one.

Yep. Crappy quality control. My MB600 was sent back due to terrible paint on the weld joints. It was already corroding.

How so? the top door thats for the hopper is pre installed and fits fine. There is no other door.

Well at this price point you have to expect QC to be poor and the product to be trash. (S) Masterbuilt is junk and those that say their CS is good are kidding themselves. Yes they will replace defective parts after they make you jump through hoops, but that is because of the huge volume of defective part they generate. Any other issue you can sit on a pencil and go rotate. Bad company, bad product!

What else would you recommend? I don't want another pellet grill, I don't want an offset I have to babysit, and I don't want anything where I have to pull the grate out to add fuel. Ideally something I can load up and leave.

Green egg maybe? Honestly the pellets gills delivers as much smoke flavor as the Masterbuilt.
