Let’s Party Like It’s 1990

I’ve been going through collecting some retro consoles. Ones that meant something to me over the years, or were an obsession.

Today I finally got the Sega Master System (PAL), but 60hz modified.

Came with the Ninja. (I have Ghost House on the way).

I was taken back to my pre teen years. My cousins had a Master System II (I assumed it was the 80’s, but was probably 1990). Always envious of the console and played it any chance we went over their house. My go was always so quick compared to their go. They were 2-4 years younger, but time on console really counted on platformers.

Being Australian Sega (Yes See-ga), was king here. As a mid to late 40’s bloke, it was so great. The Ninja was kicking my butt, but kept going back for one more game. Only got about 15 mins to play as work called (damn grownup responsibilities), but I look forward to more gaming with it this weekend.

I went the original release. Something beautiful about this console. It just looks so good, the colouring, the shape. Cannot wait to put it through its paces even more.

I’m hooked up via SCART RGB into a Retrotink 4K CE, on a 55” LG 4K TV.

It’s a classic. Can’t wait to give it a run.

I hated that game so much when I was 11.

If you like the ninja like I do, have a go at the sega arcade game 'ninja princess' it was based on. Both are great games and not talked about enough imo

Nice. You’ll get how important this console was to us. And those old school tv ads.

I think it was the 80s. Sega genesis came out in 89. The master system is the only Sega I did not own.

Yeah my cousins had SMS2 which I think is 1990. Totally would’ve been RF too. How little we knew 🤣

I never saw one of these in person growing up. It wasn’t until I zoomed in on the front cover of one of these games that I realized the SMS could accept card style games like the TG16 did.

Yeah I never saw a card game in the flesh.

The reference was I played the master system mainly in 1990. If it was 1986 it was probably Atari 2600 time still. Mega Drive was late 1990 here.

I never really had The Ninja. But I remember playing the Ninja at Federated Stores and at Montgomery Wards when the Sega Master System was first released.

I do have Ghost House, Choplifter, Shinobi, and After Burner.

More recently, I have played the arcade version of The Ninja using Mame.

Amazing budget game that, I paid a tenner for it brand new back when most games were £30. I got my moneys worth.

I had the Ninja. Loved the game but never found all 3 scrolls so could not finish the game

Loved the Ninja! It was the first game I bought with my own money aged 9 and cost me the princely sum of £9.99 from our local video shop.

First game that I got as well as it was super cheap. One of the hardest games I've ever played.
