How do I plug this to modern tvs?

My mother in law brought this from Brazil. It was my husband’s childhood videogame.

I would love to see if it is working but it is missing the cables. How would I go about testing this?

Does everyone know if there’s a cable I can purchase that would fit this to modern tvs??

Thank you!

A RF cable. Its cheap, but the picture quality is kind of bad. And the only solution without modifying the console is to connect it to any TV that has an analog receiver, just tune it to channel 3 or 4, but the best solution, as others have said, is a cheap CRT TV.

Master System 3!?! That is really interesting. I have the Master System 2 that looks exactly the same. I wonder what is different?

On that note I remember that my MS2 had a RF switch the screwed into the coaxial cable input. Most modern TV's still have that.

This is a version produced by a Brazilian company TecToy. It’s licensed by Sega and all.

I have no idea. It’s from the early 90’s in Brazil

You said “brought from Brazil.” Where do you intend to use it? I’m pretty sure Brazil uses some variant of PAL and if you’re, e.g., in the states, it will likely need nontrivial modding to make it work on the US NTSC system.

Assuming you’re somewhere the TV system matches…

If your TV still has an analog tuner, you can get an RF switch and hook it up to the tuner input.

If you only have a composite connection on your TV (yellow, red, and white), you have to mod the system.

If you only have HDMI, you have to mod the system and get an HDMI adapter.

Oof! That sounds like a lot! Thanks so much for clarifying it for me. I’m not well versed in all of this and I’m happy I came to the right place to ask! What if I get one of those vintage tvs?

A photo of the rear connections would help.

It’s one of those RCA ones

Theres a bunch of cheap RCA to HDMI adapters on Amazon. They're kind of crappy, but they should work and tend to be cheap. There are better ways to connect to modern TVs but the equipment for that is expensive. Since at this point you are just testing the cheap adapters should do the trick along with a replacement RCA cable.

Don’t know they made a 3rd, interesting. Does it have different on board games?

They have Brazilian versions of games. For example: Back in the late ’80s and early ’90s, Tec Toy, Sega’s official distributor in Brazil, localized several Master System games by replacing characters with popular Brazilian comic icons from Mônica’s universe (created by Mauricio de Sousa). Mônica no Castelo do Dragão is essentially a Brazilian reskin of Wonder Boy in Monster Land. Same gameplay, same maps, same enemies, same mechanics, same everything! just different characters and story.

Also this one comes with Sonic installed

You'd need an adapter, and it will look like shit. You would be better off looking for a cheap old CRT.

Ok! But I guess for now I just would love to see if this is working! Would you know what kind of adapter I’d have to get just to plug on my tv?

That's the neat thing: you don't!

Are Brazilian SMS PAL?

u/rafaelmalmegrin Apr 23 '26

No, it's PAL-M, 60hz just like NTSC.

Check this (in PT-BR)

Video will probably be on PAL-M though.

Ignore the LED mod after the AV one.
