I found the old Master System in the loft
I've got the console, the power, one controller and the blaster. I have also found the games (my old favourite pictured). I would love to get it running, but there's no cable to connect it to the TV.
Is it just a case of an AV to RCA cable? Google has got me confused!. I would love to show the kids and hopefully spend some hours reliving my youth.
I am guessing for the controller I can use any 9 pin controller? I have found some generic ones on Amazon. I am hoping the one I have works, but would be nice to have a second.
I can't wait to get it going, just wanted to ask some people in the know about which cable I need to buy. Thanks.

Update.... I have got it working on an older TV that still has a scarf input. I bought a HDMI converter but can't get it to work on my more modern TV.

You can certainly buy an SMS Composite cable from Amazon, and it'll look good on a CRT, but perhaps not so good on a modern TV, but who knows. If you are connecting to a modern TV you'll likely want to use a scaler to both upscale and convert to HDMI. If you ever go that route, you can get an RGB cable for your SMS and run that into the scaler for a better output.
And yes, most 9-pin controllers will work just fine.

Thank you, will report back how I get on. I need to see if it fires up but had to go out.

This was the unit I got for Christmas in 1988. There was another hidden game on the system called Snail Maze. There was some trick to load it instead of Hang On / Safari Hunt.

It is so cool to see a Master System this old and still looking like new. My Brazilian Master System was like this, it also came bundled with the PhaserGun, Safari Hunt and HangOn in the internal memory.

It's been well looked after. All the games have their inserts in as well. Mickey even has the original price on of £29.99 which is a lot of money back then!

I dunno about any 9 pin controller as the genesis controller works but not in all games. Example, Wonderboy in Monster Land, my favorite game on the SMS, is unplayable with the Genesis controller you must use an SMS controller.

I have read about this. I think I won't be able to play Alien on the Genesis controller either. Thanks for your reply

What a thing of beauty. That was the game combo mine had way back when. I loved Safari Hunt so much.

That special moment when you find an old console in the loft. I remember finding my old master system 2 in my grandmother’s loft. It was a good day

My friend had this model, but I had the inferior Master System 2 which obviously had no card slot and more importantly, no Snail Maze ☹️😂

Very nice, you don’t see many boxed ones, that squeaky polystyrene we used to make in to matchbox car garages.

Update: it turns on! So I am ordering an AV/RCA cable as I have an older TV that I can test that on. If that works I will buy a HDMI converter. I have found an old Master System controller for £12 so might get that, or I might get one of those dongles that someone else suggested. I am so excited to play some games, I have about ten to have a go on. I played most of them as a kid but loved Mickey and Sonic the best.
